Hey all,

We just got a message on the MTBR 29" forum (http://forums13.consumerreview.com/crforum?14@69.7ZuharxIGIv.3600556@.ef6c7 f6) that DirtRag had started one too, way cool!
Not sure the MTBR regular will ever leave their treehouse, but this new forum offers a good chance to have other riders to be properly informed on anything to with the plus size wheels.
If you're a Dirt Rag poster and don't find your answers in the MTBR archives  , ask it on here!

A nice link to get you all started, explaining only the pro's of 29" can be found at www.cyclecambridge.com/29er's.html ( , discussed in this thread of the MTBR 29" forum (http://forums13.consumerreview.com/crforum?14@69.7ZuharxIGIv.0@.efbe0dd).

A super brief of what 29" is :
700c(28") rimmed wheels used with 2.1"+ tires, for pure mountainbiking, nothing like cyclo-cross at all, rather a bit more toward freeride even.
A true 29" bike requires a dedicated frame, fork and wheels.
Invented by wes Williams of
Willits (http://www.willitsbrand.com) , made possible by WTB, who after long nagging from Willits and Gary Fisher, came with the first "29x2.1 tire. Nishiki and Gary Fisher simulaniously presented their 29" bikes at the sept 2001 Eurobike. Willits was building 29" bikes since 1999 already.

For those open to something new, and those already hot on it, have fun on these 2 fine forums!

Happy trails,

J, from Holland

PS. Do post pictures of your 29"bikes!!! Here's my favorite ride :

Yea, there was another 29er forum that closed down and we felt there was a void to fill. I myself have been riding the Karate Monkey as well as a Rivendell Atlantis (More of a road bike, but pretty damn versatile)

I've ridden them a couple of times, and to be honest, I haven't been impressed. Well, that's a lie. When I rode a Sugar 29er out close to the office, I felt like I was able to maintain a higher momentum, but due to the frame size, I felt like the bike was just too big for me. Maybe it was.

Perhaps it's due to my short inseam- 29"- strangely enough, the same size as the wheel.

I dunno... are there any short people out there that groove on the big wheels?

Hey,
there's a TON of info over on the mtbr forum. Here's a link to some of the discussion related to shorter riders on 29ers.

The bottom line is: the adult wheel doesn't care how tall you are, it's going to roll better just as well for the midget.
