Fugazi (they really stick in my mind because they played at the local college the year after I attended and I didn't know about it in time to go )

At the Drive-In (had tickets to a Chicago show when they broke up)

the Pixies
Hum, one of the greatest bands nobody has ever heard of.

The Allman Bros
the Stones but I'm really only intersted in seeing them circa 70-75.

Pink Floyd
Rage Against the Machine
Sunny Day Real Estate
Uncle Tupelo
Split Lip Rayfield
Blind Melon

Good Thread Pea or uh AM!

I did manage to see the Grateful Dead many times before Jerry died, and I've seen Janes Addiction 3 times in their original lineup (and once with Flea). And Nirvana before Kurt did what he did, even though I rank that show near the bottom of the nearly 100 shows (counting repeats) I've been able to see.

Ah yes, a great Boston band. Two string bass, drums, and sax (bass, alto + tenor I believe)
They did use other instruments in the studio occasionally though.
Unfortunately the singer/bassist Mark Sandman passed away.
The surviving members have toured as "Orchestra Morphine" w/guest vocalists so the spirit lives on.

The surviving members have toured as "Orchestra Morphine" w/guest vocalists so the spirit lives on. Tenor and Bari :p

And Dana Coley (sax) and Billy Conway (second drummer) play together in a band called Twinemen (http://www.twinemen.com/). Its a departure from the dark, deep sound of Morphine, but definately worth a listen. Also, Jerome DuPree (the first drummer) plays in Bourbon Princess (http://www.bourbonprincess.com/), which really is an evolution of the sound of Morphine, and the new album, Dark of Days (http://www.bourbonprincess.com/darkOfdays.html) is honestly one of the sexiest records I have heard. :o

Cool, thanks for the links. I'd heard of the Twinemen, but only recently. They don't appear to be touring currently though. Definitely want to check them out. :)

Not really into bands all that much...
I do enjoy a good jazz show though

Missed a great deal but I would have like to have seen...

Joe Williams

Missed a chance to see Mose Allison at the Dingo Bar in Albuquerque in 1988 or so. Still kick myself for that one. Maybe I still have a chance to see him someday.

I've never thought there was much point in regretting not seeing a band before they broke up. Lots of new stuff coming around all the time.

Still... it hurts that I never got a shot at Man... or Astroman?

A buddy of mine tried to drag me to see U2 back in 1983 and I said "no." Stupid move as I became a pretty big fan the day after the show and I read the review in the paper. That would have been THE tour to see them. Kinda big time after that with pretentious shows.

I also blew off chances to go see Frank Zappa, Camper Van Beethoven and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Then later in the early 90's I blew off a trip to Seattle where friends saw Nirvana and Pearl Jam before they were the next big band.

I always regretted I never made it to see Queen. They came to my city back in the early 80's and I never went.

Kinda bummed I missed the San Quinten performance of Johnny Cash back in 1969....well maybe not. The CD is good enough. Far superior to Folsom in my opinion but that is for another debate.

I saw them on that 1984 tour in 1985. I was in the arena during the afternoon during sound check and the sidefill monitors were as loud as most band's arena sound rigs. The building electrician was astonished when they asked for 600 Amps for sound and 800 Amps for lighting.

He was the only artist that I cried when they died. I'm sure Willie and Dylan will make that list, though.

While I agree with HairyG that there is plenty of good music thesedays, I still enjoy this thread. It's not like I'm rocking in the corner in the dark becuse I missed any of these bands.

I'll add
The Replacements
Husker Du
to the I mised em list

And I'd like to offer up the best lineup ever seen
January 1992
Red Hot Chilli Peppers-BloodSugarSexMagic tour
Smashing Pumpkins (before Siamese Dream, I had Gish and loved it, they were the #1 reason I went)
Pearl Jam (before anybody, myself included heard of them, in IL anyway)

I was also lucky enough to see both Loolapaloza 1 and 2.
Also saw Neil Young two weeks ago, fantastic. Really wish I'd been able to attend the Ragged Glory tour that played in town in 91 or92.

Weakest show ever. Rick Springfield. But in my defence I was 13.

Pedalhead reminded me of a show thats needs mentioning in my been there list.

Eric Clapton at the Royal Albert Hall!!!!

Was in London in 93 and there was a ticket booth (scalper) across the street, right by the Underground station entrance. Bought tickets to EC as well as Smashing Pumkins. What a great 10 days that trip was!
EC tickets cost about 100$ each (I treated Mom since she paid for airfare and hotel) saw SP by myself, for about 30$. Any SP fans who are familiar with the Earphoira CD and/or the Viewphoria DVD will probably know they were largely recorded at the 3 night run in London where I saw one of the performances. Great crowd in a great venue, 1500ish people, awesome!!
