When was the last show you saw? And who was it?
me, I saw Zappa Plays Zappa last Friday in Denver. It was most impressive. I highly recommend going to see it. It blew my mind!

Saw Barn Burning (http://www.myspace.com/barnburning) play a bar 2 weeks ago.
i'd been a fan prior, but that show elevated them greatly in my eyes. Most of their stuff is ultra bleak country that kinda leans towards Wilco's spacier stuff at times. Their albums generally contain 5-6 musicians, but this time is was just a singer/guitarist/harmonica and a drummer/percussionist. Some lady stepped in and played the fiddle on 2-3 songs as well. Very stripped down, very minimal and very very good. The night was rainy and cold and the bar was warm and dark with only 3-4 people there to see em. Perfect atmosphere for such music.
Werner Ghost Truck might be the best album i bought his year

Friday night, in spite of having the cartridge bearings in my commuter's rear hub explode (I are horrible mechanic) six miles from the show, I still managed to see the STNNNG (http://www.stnnng.com/audio.html) open up for Dillinger Four (http://www.myspace.com/dillingerfour). My girlfriend hates the STNNNG more than anything in the world because they're a noisy Jesus Lizard-type band that goes for some cheap shocks in between songs, but I think they're totally great. Thankfully, she wasn't there.
If you ever get a chance to see D4 in your town, don't miss it. They're better than your favorite band, unless they're your favorite band, in which case HIGH FIVE!

Zappa plays Zappa was amazing. Dweezil and band would be playing along, then Frank would come on a video screen and rip a mean solo, sound and video blending PERFECTLY, all the while Dweezil would stand there in the same awe as we all felt for dad.
Last one was Sasquatch and the Sickabillys @ Jerky's here in Providence this summer. Went on way too long, 2 + hours of Sasquatch is more than enough. If you've seen them you know what I mean. They're always a good time though..
I'm sitting on 3 tix to the Bosstone's NYE show now. Tickets to this show, and the Hometown Throwdown, were near impossible to procure. Should be a great way to ring in the New Year!

I was lucky enough to see Zapppa Plays Zappa. Might not have due to a high ticket price but I was going w/ a friend I hadn't seen in a while. And I'm really glad I did. Dweezil himself is playing some pretty impossible guitar.

i was unbelieveably lucky and i got to see the pink razors open for action patrol saturday night. action patrol has been broken up for over 10 years and came together for 2 days to play 2 re-union shows. it was one of the best damn shows i've ever seen.
if you like 90s punk at all you should definitely check out both of those bands, especially the pink razors album "waiting to wash up". action patrol is much better live too, so if you like their album, just imagine it being 100 times better! in person! and only twice in ten years!

no kiddig Wig! During the solo for Carolina Hardcore Ecstacy, Dweezil warped the hell outta that guitar neck! And when I thought it couldn't get any sicker, he pulled even more notes out of that bent neck! That guy has some good DNA. And the Frank vid was superb!

No offense but...
Comparing Social Distortion to the Pogues (who I also like) is like comparing the Bad Brains to Beck. :D It's two totally different styles of music. One band's from L.A., the other from Ireland, I don't think they could be more different. Although I know a lot of folks that love both of 'em. And yeah, the Monkees are SO INFERIOR to the mighty Beatles!

Saw the Sword and Valient Thorr play on Saturday. Rock keeps my blood moving. The Sword is great and VT is fun to watch but felt a little gimmicky.
Biggest and happiest surprise was Black Cobra. Rumbling, aggressive doom metal on the order of High on Fire. Brutal. Magnificent.

Haven't been out much lately. Saw Philly's own G Love and Special Sauce at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA a while back.
Just missed seeing Jimmie's Chicken Shack there a couple of weeks ago on Thanksgiving Eve. Had to work. Bummer....
Saw the Bosstones last night @ the Middle East in Cambridge, MA. Hometown Throwdown #10 / reunion show. Un****ingbelievably good is all I can say. Last time I saw them at that club was in '94 for the first Throwdown. From the energy levels in the room you'd have thought Elvis came back from the dead. Seeing them in town (Providence) on New Years as well. Hopefully they won't disappear for another 4 years after that show..
Whilst out in Vegas last winter I was given tickets to the Black Eyed Peas (ya, I know) and Macy Gray opened for them..........
.............and speaking of Ryan Adams, whilst on the same trip last winter, I came upon the Timeless CD.....Hank Sr. music done by contemporary artist such as Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, etc.......well there was a tune on the CD done by Ryan Adams that I just can't get enough of.
I also saw Led Zepplin the last time they ever played in Chicago back in nineteen seventy something
Neil young at the beautiful (and soniclly awesome) Fox Theatre in St. Loius MO on Nov 18th! Very Cool!
He played many fairly obscure songs and a handful from his new album, along with Cinnamon Girl, A Man Needs A Maid, and Heart of Gold for the fans who don't know his more obscure tracks.
Great show in a fantastic venue!
Saw Neil Young on his Greendale tour a couple years back............guy was heckling him something fierce for the first half hour or so cuz he was'nt playing the "traditional stuff". Neil finally told the guy to funk off.......was kinda cool seeing the place come unglued. for his oncore he came out and played some of the old stuff.

hah...how'd I miss this thread till now?
Lets see, last week saw Tele (local band) and two other bands play new years, the week before that it was more local bands friday, weakerthans thursday, tele again on monday...week before that was alexisonfire and saosin on sunday (3 floor opera house, one of the band members climbed the PA stack, jumped onto the second floor balconies, and crowed surfed up to the top), then some band with guys with really big legs that played mostly covers...gonna see foo fighters in march. january is going to be a slow month with only 4 shows I'm going to.
I'm a live music addict, I've seen so many shows in the past two months I can only really remember 3 weeks back. average is two a week with a high of 4.

*snip* one of the band members climbed the PA stack, jumped onto the second floor balconies, and crowed surfed up to the top *snip*
Reminds me of a Devo show back in the day (think '80s) when, during an extend jam, Mark exited the stage as the band played on. Only to re-appear on the second floor balcony with a rope that he tied off, and then he rappelled down into the ground-floor crowd and surfed somewhere out of my sight.
He did re-appear on stage. And the band played on....

Cant remember the last. Maybe the Offspring. Next is Queensryche on the 22nd.
Wow, I didn't realize Queensryche was still together. My tastes have shifted a bit but I bet they are still really good live. I saw them open for Metallica in 89 or 90, Justice tour. And again on the Empire tour where they played the entire Mindcrime album in order, very cool!

oh! that reminded me of the saosin bass player! he suddenly dropped his bass and dived into the crowd. of course, he was a typical bass player (visibly quirky). every bass player I know either does something weird with his legs, is creepy, rocks out harder than the music should allow, or is extremely short or tall. just something about bass players I guess, they're usually different than the rest of the band...

I went to see Van Halen last night at the Pepsi Center in Denver. They delivered. 27 songs! "Everybody wants some" was most certainly the highlight for me. Those guys put a lot of effort into this tour, it shows. Also, Eddie's 16 year old son was playing bass. That kid is stoked!
I'll be seeing the Supersuckers a week from monday, and Drive By-Truckers on the 27th. I'm stoked!

I saw Queensryche on both those tours. When they toured with Metallica, a couple of friends and I had a banner that said "Metallica's cool but Queensryche Rules" My buds had seen them 3 shows in a row with this banner. Chris Degarmo came up into the stands and talked to us while Metallica was playing. It was pretty cool. I had no idea who he was at first. You don't expect the guy that was on stage 20 minutes ago to come and talk to you.
Most recent was Van Halen last week in San Antonio. Those guys sounded pretty darn good all things considered. Eddie was real lean, but in a more healthy way, than otherwise, and David Lee Roth didn't do too bad. Didn't quite jump as high as he once did, but still sounded the same. And I was surprised, it looked like they were having fun and getting along pretty well. Although Dave did forget some of the words to "Mean Streets" and sang I forgot the f'ing words instead. Pretty funny really.

You lucky b@$t@rd! Before I die, or the Bosstones do, I WILL see them at the Hometown Throwdown.
I saw the Bosstones with Flogging Molly at the Bluebird Theater in Denver. Was pro'ly one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. And even more impressive was that Dicky Barrett stood at the door and shook people's hands and thanked them for coming to the show.
I have seen Flogging Molly almost everytime they've been in the area. What a riot! If you've never seen 'em, I HIGHLY recommend it. They are unreal live.
As for the MMB; they just released a B-side album called Medium Rare, so there might be hope for a new found effort (touring, new music, etc.) to follow!

I walked into a random bar one night about two weeks ago to see some random local talent, and every band was kickass that day. Sometimes you just walk into a random bar, and the band just blows you through the wall. The last band was one of those...I bought their cd the second they finished their set with my last $10 for the month and havn't stopped listening to it...
soooo much undescovered GOOD talent out there, and so much garbage that they play on the radio and tv...
Live Supersuckers: they raaaaaaaaaaak!!!!
I had a chance to see them about twos years ago but I only found out about it the day before and since I didn't have a DL at the time and couldn't get the box office to see if there were tickets (there were ) I didn't go along.
But I hear they are opening for themselves again with their "country" set (including Jordan Sharipo) before blowing the roof off the joint, I'm excited! Me love Me a good Rock show! :D

I just saw DJ Shadow and the Cut Chemist at the Ogden in Denver. Quite an awesome performance. Those guys only spun vinyl and only 45s. Spinning 45s is more difficult due to the higher turntable speed and less real estate to grab onto. Or so they say... Great show nonetheless, very impressive.
Supersuckers are hard to beat live! And North Miss. really rock live too!
I got my BUCKETHEAD tickets for Sat. the 8th in Boulder! WooHoo!
The Slackers last night at The Middle East in Cambridge, MA. 2 hours of classic Slackers, and some newer stuff from the Boss Harmony Sessions. Aside from the rancid Newcastle in a can (tasted like gasoline, lighter fluid and a little rubbing alcohol) it was a great how. :D

Saw 'em last night at the historic Maryland Theatre in Hagerstown. SMOKIN' hot R&B, performed by living legends. Otis is the only original member, but the music didn't suffer the least. Damn, they were tight!
The tickets were a Christmas gift from my beloved wife, The Beautiful Miss Kathy's sister Janice. In our party were myself, TBMK, our rotten kid, Janice, her gentleman friend and our niece Angela. During a particularly fine performance of one of our favorite songs I looked over at my daughter and said "We're putting the band back together." She grinned and responded, "We're on a mission from God". Truly a memorable evening.
Social Distortion last July. Great show, as always
Had such a good time at the Champaign, IL show on the 27th that I decided to head down to St. Louis, MO on leap day to see them again, a decision based largely on one of my best friends in the world living there so free lodgings and excellent company were included in the package. REALLY glad I did, the crowd was awesome which seemed to feed the band who maybe started a little bit off but rose up to deliver one of the best rock shows I've ever seen! Funkin Fantastic!!
Iceing on the cake, there was a taper there and sunday I was able to download the show!!!!!!!!!WHoo Hoo!!!!!!!!

Yeah hugely underated, I think it's because of what some would consider their wacky/out there songs, of which they have many. The're great musicians, in 3 hours they went from rock to metal to country and everything they did sounded awesome. the new cd is good too.

The DKM/BossToneS show is in July. My post makes it look like it was last Saturday :o I made certain I snagged tix on Saturday AM. After the reunion/ Hometown Throwdown ticket scalping fiasco this past December I wasn't taking any chances.
They are playing not too far from you in Columbia, MD on 7/9 with DKM.
I made it to one of the Throwdown shows in December at the Middle East in Cambridge and it was ludicrous. One of the best shows I've seen, except maybe Avail when they were touring to support 4 AM Friday. I also made it to the Bosstones New Years Eve show here in town. That was a blast, it was like they didn't want to stop playing... kind of a harbinger of things to come as they are now doing a bunch of mini tours.
