My parents have an alpaca farm in a rural county outside of Richmond. Well, today some asshat shot one of them. It looked like they gut-shot it, and then shot it in the head

I don't know what they thought they were doing, as it was clearly not a deer, was in an electrified pasture, and the Great Pyrenees guard dog would have certainly killed them if they tried to remove it. Unless they shot her, too  Why didn't they just shoot some of the Pyrenees puppies while they were at it

It just really pisses me off. Someone comes along and decides, "Oh, that's not mine, but I think I'll destroy it." They probably were too stupid (or drunk) to realize that it was someone's livelyhood that that they were shooting, or that it was worth about $15K and if they get caught, it will be a felony

Sorry, to vent, but you guys are friends, and they listen, even if they don't care :p

Damn, that's a sad story. My sympathies. I hope the dog is ok.

Sounds like the work of some real jackhole. I hope the law catches up with 'em.

Alpacas are such beautiful animals. There's a farm with over 50 of them near me. I make a point of routing my road bike rides by the farm, just so I can look at them.

The elk farm that I ride by, on the other hand, is kinda sad... coz I can't help thinking they're gonna end up in somebody's belly.

I think the above quote clears away most of the facade and gets to the heart of the matter. People who do this kind of sh*t may give so called reasons for their actions, but it usually boils down to simple malice ... "because they can" and believe they'll get away with it

I hope that the people responsible are caught, rob. Hope your parents are doing all right as well.

The dog's are fine. That was just to illustrate the point.

And as for my Parent's, alpaca's are considered "investments" (or something similar), and are insured. They'll probably get a new one, or I'll get to help build another barn  :p

And yeah, I feel its important to separate the person/deed from the other facts. For example, it would have been easy to go of on hunters/rednecks/drunks etc ... but in reality, it was just one stupid person

A calous act by a sorry individual. I understand hunting, they eat what they kill, and there would be WAY to many deer in my area if they weren't hunted. But I can't understand or condone the hurting/killing of animals at all. I just don't get it.
And I'd like the chance to "persuade" the person involved in any harming of an innocent animal that their unfeeling view is wrong.

I just talked to my parents and yesterday they discovered that another alpaca was shot at the same time!

The bullet passed entirely through a muscle on the top of the hip, and they just found it!

If they find this fvcker I want a crack at him with a crankarm and big ring!
