No, but I did see it being made on the History Channel last night.

I was up at the brewery right around the time they were first announcing that. It costs a fortune, I think. But probably worth every penny -- that particular great American patriot seems incapable of creating a bad beer.

Haha! Me too...
I think I might be a sucker and buy one.

Spatafore,
Did you take the picture of the bottle? Did you get to try it?
I really want to try it, but I am trying to convince my brother to go half with me on one. I don't really want to shell out the $180 or whatever they are this year.
On a related note, have you ever tried the Sam Adams triple bock? Whew...definitely not a beer to "chug". Need to drink it more like brandy, in a big snifter. A unique experience.

I bought a case in 1994 when it first came out and still have most of it left. That shit tastes like Robitussin mixed with maple syrup.

13 year old Triple Bock?? You may want to put it on Craigs list and see if someone wants to burn it in place of heating oil. I'm not positive but that stuff doesnt have a long shelf life does it?
Regarding the Utopia I would love to try it, but its just so insanely priced. I did have a nice Chimay at a party last night. 3000 calories packed in a 20 oz bottle. Thats livin'

The Victory Old Horizontal barley wine seems to hold up for about 2-4 years. Every year they crack open a few prior "vintages" (hopages? maltages?) and they taste really, really good...

I'm curious about this stuff. I always wonder on some of these beers if they dont juice in the preservatives how long they last. I'm sure they are all different. I mean I've had some premium beer go skunk on me and I always wondered about how long some of this stuff can last.
I'm actually a fan of the Triple Bock from Sam Adams. Its been a few years since I've had any. What is this stuff selling for these days? (per bottle).
Any suggestions from the room regarding beers similar to this? It seems like when I'm in the hankering to buy a couple of bottles its never around.

I actually went and looked on ebay and there are several bottles of Triple Bock on there. I wasnt aware they treat that beer as a vintage and if properly stored should be just as good as the year it was brewed. And no wonder it isnt usually available as they have not made it way more years than they have made it. Duh!

No, the photo was off line. Bottle is due here any day now. It was painful to press the "Pay now" button when I bought it off EBay.
I will crack the bottle on x-mas with my girlfriend. Then I have a buddy who is a brewer at a local microbrewery that will definitely join me for another drink.
I have had triple bock a few times. Not bad.

With an ABV of 17.4% this shit has the shelf life of Uranium 238. It can't possibly taste any worse than it did in 1994.

Yeah I've been reading that. I just wondered because I had a $35 case of Penn Pilsner all skunked out on me one time.

Most beer is meant to be consumed fresh, but there are a few big boys out there that do improve with age--barley wines and the like. I've got some 8 year old Sierra Nevada Bigfoot in the fridge right now--good stuff!
FYI, skunkiness is a specific beer fault that is associated with being "light struck." This most often occurs with hoppy brews in light colored bottles or bottles stored under florescent lighting or in direct sunlight. That's one reason that I'm a big fan of caned beer.

They should state half life on these big beers instead of shelf life.
Just got my Utopias!
Samuel Adams just emailed me too. O.k. it wasn't Samuel Adams, it was Jim. Ok, ok, it wasn't Jim, it was some girl named Laura at the estore. Anyways, they will not ship me the free Utopias glass because of some Ohio state law.
