I was talking to a friend from Chicago last night and he said that the city is setting up a commuter's station complete with showers, lockers for clothes, bike racks with locks, police servalence, bike shop, store, and do you need more?
Could you imagine? I think half the reason office types don't commute is because of sweat/clothes. My excuse? I don't care about wrinkles. It would truly be amazing, however, if that were the case here. Oh to dream.

...but Max, stadiums are where its at. Their overpriced box seats attract tons of young people to the city to see losing and financially troubled teams play. Subsidizing their construction while closing all of the city rec centers and all but six of the city pools is the only way to a better Pittsburgh.

Look at the great economic progress we've seen thanks to our two new stadiums! The Pirates have a much more competitive, let alone profitable, team as compared to before. It makes me feel good to see the stadiums lit up every night of the year, whether or not there's a game being played, while educational funding, public transit and city parks are being cut.

Max,you really need to get your head screwed on straight. Murphy and Rendell know whats best for you, and its not a bike station. Something like a bike station simply isn't going to attract rich suburbanites to town like another cookie cutter store, horsetracks or some flashy stadiums will. Thats what we need around here...

*But on a more serious note, there were actual plans for a series of commuter stations like that in Pittsburgh. The first one was, or is, scheduled to open in the next two years or so down by the county jail. There were a few others being talked about, but that was the only one actually slated to be built. But something tells me the plan will be scrapped and we'll get another stadium instead. I'm shining with excitement. Really.

It was to my understanding that lockers for clothes and bicke-lock up services were a flat rate every month. I don't know if showers were included. As far as who pays for the project, tax payers, most likely.
