I just started listening to music while I ride. Not so much on the trails usually but when I ride on the road alone (90% of my riding these days) I've found the MP3 player to be a godsend when climbing and sprinting. Really motivating. More so than I would have thought.
I'm such a fan of electronic music so I typically listen to dj mixes. These are perfect for working out, especially when fitness is your goal. Tempo generally stays the same for an hour or more while the melodies and drums change so while it would probably bore most people here I bet it's all I'll listen to while riding. Specifically I like drum 'n' bass or jungle when on the bike. Uptempo drum music is my passion so some rock 'n' roll also fits the bill - the problem with that is the tempo tends to change so much, then boom a slow song will kill the mood. I supose I just need to create my own playlist first... that would be fun. I'd name the artists/djs that I enjoy but no one would know/appreciate it so I'll just say that I like rave music.

If I listened to music on my death defying road rides I wouldnt make it home alive. I live in constant fear of hillbillys in pickups (complete with gun racks) and suburbanites talking on the phone on the ultra narrow and twisty, pothole filled roads. But on the Kreitler I listen to the Ramones and the Clash to keep up the cadence. Also check out Nevermind from Nirvana. Older Chilli Peppers also aint a bad choice.

I like soundtracks for my workouts and riding. I usually listen to the Top Gun soundtrack and Rocky III. Every once in awhile I'll throw in Hoosiers for a classical ride.

Metalica has become a charicature of itself. Very predictable. No longer scary. I do like the song 'Am I evil' but I don't know what alnbumn it came from.
I've got about a 5 hour 70's funk mix. P-Funk,Sly,James Brown,JB's,etc. etc. That works real well.
Another super long Reggae mix. Marley,Lee Perry,Burning Spear. Believe it or not Gov't Mule is in there playing 'Pressure Drop' w/ Toots.
Killer Jazz mix w/ Acoustic Miles Davis,Coltraine,Mingus,John McLaughlin,Sonny Rollins,etc.
Occasionally,I'll ride to a Grateful Dead show. They were pretty damn good in 1977
and I've got some cool 1980's shows on there too.
Certain Gov't Mule if I need a hard edge. No cowboy songs. Their best tunes are on the first 2 albumns. I may through some Buckethead in there too.
I only solo trail ride to music.
When I played football,AC/DC was big in the weight room. Pretty boring and predictable now though.

I pack the shuffle full of punk. I like that not all tunes have the same pace - it kind of gives a random ebb and flow to intensity levels of my workout, just like I'd normally get riding trails. Plus a lot of the stuff I have on there is politically motivated, which pisses me off and helps me get more out of my workout...

Yah, "Shuffle" seems to work for me on the trainer. Never know what's up next. And I adjust my pedaling tempo to match each song, which provides variety during the workout.

Nor do I.
Yet I find it durn near impossible to ride the trainer without tuneage. Oh, to be in FLA, right this frozen Pennsylvania moment.

Same here; no music = no trainer for me. And I can't imagine riding on the road, or even the trails really, with headphones. Scary dangerous on the road, and I prefer the sounds of the trail when I'm out on the dirt.
As to the weather, probably another day that hovers around 10 degrees F, with a bit over a foot of snow on the ground. No snow free-trail within easy driving distance, either. Great xc skiing and snowboarding this winter, however

I'm more into hip hop such as Jurassic 5 , Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, De La Soul, Pigeon John, L.A. Symphony, KRS One, but I listen to some rock as well...
Another good band... POD... and they have a new one coming out 04/08/08!!!
