Okay, I don't see many movies, though I did enjoy the hell out of Juno. That being said tonight I saw "Cloverfield", it was filmed like the "BlairWitch Project", students of my alma mater, the University of Central Florida. If you haven't seen either of the two movies then it's filmed like you were there experiencing it.
I think the reviews were mixed from the audience, the kids want a more gory movie. This one shows the monsters, but you still have to use your imagination some. I liked it, actually I liked it a lot, almost as much as Dumb and Dumber and Napoleon Dynamite, though it's not a comedy.

i liked it alot too. the other really good movie that i recently saw(i am legend), i heard people complaining about not enough gore(stupid people). but both these movies had more edge of your seat suspence than you know what to do with. and thats what makes a good movie imo.

I agree, one of the guys I ride with saw I am Legend last week and liked it too. Like you said, it keeps you on the edge of your seat. I liked the sound of the footsteps and the blinking lights, made it scary.

Was it kind of like Signs w/ Mel Gibson? I really liked that movie...

I like the premise that Cloverfield is like a movie shot on a cellphone by the people running through the streets of Tokyo running from Godzilla.

Rocky, I rode with a guy this morning that left during the first 15 minutes on Wednesday at sneak preview. He missed it getting intense by about 5 minutes. I liked the premise too, it was like you were there. Hell, it was different and entertaining without star power, that alone gives it a nod in my book. So many movies today that have star power, suck. You walk out saying " I just wasted 146 minutes of my life, time I can never recover!"

Watched it this evening, and it was good. The whole Blair Witch School of Cinematography thing worked, and the early views of the monster were hidden enough to give suspense, then later enough was shown that I didn't feel cheated -- the balance is perfect.
One of the best parts was how some people kept saying random dumb-ass things throughout. The chatter about the psycho-pyro-bum when they were walking through the tunnel, that sort of thing. Man, I can rattle off a list of similar dumb-ass things people were saying around me while Katrina was blowing through. Something about tension brings that out in people. Anyway, that part rang 100% true.
Damn, I hope they don't try to make a sequel. Just leave us with a good monster flick, don't screw up the story line by nailing it down, and quit while the success is ridin' high. I've got to see this again while it's still in theaters.

IMAX would be sweet for this one.

and on TV tonight is the Korean version (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468492/plotsummary), very quirky and somewhat Godzilla like. With subtitles.

Oh yeah. I just googled up "cloverfield imax" and the results were patchy. But with the strong box office showing, it'll likely be upconverted.
Man, and the nearest IMAX theater for me is in New Orleans. It'll be an urban wreckage creature-double-feature! I can't wait.
