I've just been given a stack of new to me music by a friend and right now I can't stop playing the Into the Wild soundtrack! I'll admit to being a EV fan anyway but the lyrics, music and song structure are all so awesome in the context of the storyline. Great! Now I want to read the book again, then maybe see the movie.
AND;
Billy Bragg and Wilco-Mermaid Ave. They put music to unfinished Woody Guthrie lyrics after Woody died. The end result is amazingly cool!
Warren Haynes live at Bonnaroo
Steve Earle-I Feel Alright
are also playing their fair share!

I am jealous of your Supersucker show. I'll have to see if they're arond KC this year.
A few months back a co-worker goave me a copy of Raising Sand — the Robert Plant/Alison Krauss collaboration. I browsed through it at the time and found it affable but soon forgot I had it. I just rediscovered it & I'm really getting into the subtleties that each artist in this odd blend brings to the album. Krauss' voice has always made soft love inside my ear canal — a little more tender than the twang of Emmylou — and Plant brings the raw Zepplinesque instrumentation into a bluegrassyness that you'll just have to listen to to feel. Check it out if you're in a laid back mood...

Spoke, I've got Adams' first solo release and like it. What other album of his would you recommend?
They all have bright spots.
"Nuclear" from Demolition is probably my favorite tune from him although the rest of that disc isnt that strong.
My personal favorite album from him start to finish is Rock N Roll. He rarely plays any of those songs anymore in their original form. Its an homage so to speak of some of the classic tunes from the 70s and 80s. Listen close and you will catch some Cars, T-Rex, Pink Floyd and several others I cant think of right now off the top of my head.
Cold Roses was very strong but he should have stopped right there instead of putting out the other two records that year. 29 is not worth much except there is one tune on there that is fantastic. It has a kind of Bolero Spanish flair to it. I cant think of the name.
He gets huge credit by the music press for Gold as well as Heartbreaker. I'm more partial to Gold of the first two.
I saw him at Mr. Smalls Theatre here in lovely Millvale back when Cold Roses had just been released. He can be kind of hit or miss but the show I saw was great. He must have scored a good bag of pot before the show and was in a good mood.
Rock n Roll...if you see that on half.com or ebay. Buy it.

I use a PC (Sony Vaio) and have had no issues at all with Itunes. I have got tons of music (both purchased through Itunes and ripped from CDs) and a ton of video as well. The only issues I have ever had were a bit of slowdown on the computer when I have too much video loaded into it. I now store most of the video stuff (snowboard, ski, and mt bike videos and video podcasts) on the Ipod, or on a back-up hard drive.
I use XP, and live with my iPod almost daily, 13xx songs and climbing. My only issue with iTunes is that since I moved my library to an external hard drive, the iTunes on my computer doesn't access the external on it's own. Which for a fairly computer illiterate person means I have to import music into my internal HD, then export it to the external, delete the originals, and then I can't play anything on the computer without "specifiying A path" for each individual song. Not too big a deal since I don't really use iTunes as a primary music source while on the computer. Someone more PC savvy could most likely find a way around this.
As a disclaimer to my unabashed endorsement of the Blue Mountain CD a few nights ago. I love the CD, but it's much less experimental than most of RA solo stuff. Still great music but more straight forward Alt-country. I still think you guys would like it though.

I'm running on Mac OS and I moved all my music to external HD a while back, and was able to "tell" iTunes that I did that, so it knew where to look. You should dig into the iTunes menus/help to find out how to do that for your version.

Black Mountain -in the future checked em out on stonerrock.com and got hooked. an incredible album for porch sittin, grillin, summer time relaxing. a lot of what made the best of 70's prog/psychadelia cool and none of what made it suck. epic deep rock and hints at heaviness tempered by sparse folksier beauty. incredible. i grew up on punk and caustic metal and my younger brother is a filthy hippie -this is an album we can both listen to and enjoy. highly recomended

I'm sure it's possible. I'm not terribly computer savvy though, I've looked a bit but the path to do such a thing didn't make itself very obvious.:(

There's a few simple ways around this. One would be to import the songs to i-tunes and convert to the Apple format [acc or something]. Another would be to burn cd's and then import them to i-tunes. But importing cd's that don't have track names can be a pain. When you do that, create a songlist from the cd right away so you can find the music.
At one point all the music in my library was on my computer (internal) and iTunes was fine. Since i moved it (had to HD was full) itunes won't access the external unless I click on way to many things for each individual song I want to play. I've tried creating a new library (really just telling the internal iTunes that there is an external iTunes library) per the instructions of some helpful soul on the apple forums, didn't work. Really, I'd love to resolve this problem but I don't use iTunes for music while at the computer 95% of the time. There is a CD player in the room and I'm really digging the Pandora radio right now too. SO this issue is a bit of a pain, it's far from a disaster.

Black Mountain -in the future checked em out on stonerrock.com and got hooked. an incredible album for porch sittin, grillin, summer time relaxing. a lot of what made the best of 70's prog/psychadelia cool and none of what made it suck. epic deep rock and hints at heaviness tempered by sparse folksier beauty. incredible. i grew up on punk and caustic metal and my younger brother is a filthy hippie -this is an album we can both listen to and enjoy. highly recomended
i like your description of these guys, definitely going to check them out.
current listening:
The Melvins - A Senile Animal, Houdini, Stoner Witch
somebody from another messageboard i frequent leaked the new album, "Nude with Boots", i'm probably going to check it out on my way to work today. i hope it's good.

Beethoven's 7th yesterday when driving towards town at sunset. Venezuelan vistas, pastures, mountains. Nice!
Slobberbone-Everything You Thought Was Right Today Was Wrong. Very good album on a first listen! A bit of Alt-Country, but mostly just rockin. Interesting lyrics too.

Just threw some of the following on the ipod:
Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond (Some early stuff I didn't have)
Rise Against - Siren Song of the counter Culture (ever since ROAM came out I've really liked these guys)
Rolling Stones - Not a big fan but some songs like paint it black live up to some of the hype
Eli Young Band - Live From the Jolly Fox (Decent Alt country/Texican country stuff)
There seems to be a big bluegrass theme running on this thread, let me recommend The Yellow Cards from Texas via Canada, very smooth modern blue grass. Also in that same folk/bluegrass originally from Canada theme I've got some friends of mine in a group called Martha's Troubles that have some good tunes (albeit mixed in with some sub-par ones as well) that are worth checking out.
Knapes I too got turned on to Rise Against by a Collective film, the Collective has two Rise Against songs on it from an earlier album.
Right now I'm listening to a band called Lucero.

Mose Allison (http://www.moseallison.net/) as I came back into town. :D
Enjoying Ray Davies on Austin City Limits.
One of my favorite Kinks tunes is 'Life on the Road'.
Kind of melancholy--reminds me of cruising in Tito's power Subara, with Jeebs and Mike-Boy in the back.
The tap system from the trunk is flowing and the sun is just going down on a warm summer night. Adventure

Loads of Beatles. We've been exposing our kids to Sgt. Pepper (what an atrocious film-Peter Frampton wrestling with Steven Tyler?), The Beatles' ANTHOLOGY, and my copies of Revolver, Rubber Soul, and the White Album.

I've been watching a BBC series called the 7 Ages of Rock on CBC's documentary channel. Last night was the Heavy Metal episode which featured Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue and Metallica.
It was amusing to see the interviews with the Black Sabbath guys recounting the decision to write "scary songs" after seeing the movie marquee across from a community centre and pondering at the willingness of people to pay money to be scared. It was too much like the turning point for Doug and Dinsdale Pirhana.
Or the interviews with Rob Halford of Judas Priest which outlined the establishment of leather and studs as the iconic wear of metal heads as an offshoot of his personal S&M wardrobe being used on stage.
I don't know if PBS will ever air the documentary as the language is pretty raw, but if you ever see The Seven Ages of Rock, it's a very well done documentary on rock music.

Wolves in the Throne Room -Two Hunters
This is an amazing album. It’s got the prerequisite muffled/screeching vocals, noisey guitars and hammering drums of black metal album, but that’s where the similarities end. Two Hunters filters atmospheric post rock/metal, shoegazer, deep ecology, crust, folk and goth (the real kind, not the mall kind) through black metal. The result is magnificent. It’s got the majesty of black metal, but lacks the stupidity of the genre’s nationalist/racist/homophobic/satanic tendencies. While ethereal interludes and intros is nothing new in this type of music, WITTR take it to another level. -think a more minimalistic Pelican/GSYBE rather than some wanker on a keyboard. These sublime moments aren’t there just as a juxtaposition of the crushing power of the rock parts, but as a perfect accompaniment to the layered and melodic wall of noise/howling screams of frustration. Blast beats segue perfectly into gorgeous female leads which in turn melt into the erie sounds of the nocturnal forest or tortured howls of the damned, helping create an ebb and flow-building and releasing tension. Highly recommended for fans of “smart metal.”
here's an mp3 (http://www.southernlord.com/mp3/01%20I%20Will%20Lay%20Down%20My%20Bones% 20Among%20the%20Rocks%20and%20Roots.mp3) hope it works.
Ps. These fellas are also kinda neat in that they live on a self sustaining farm out in Olympia Washington and are real into Rudolf Steiner.

I'm not a huge metal fan, but that had to be one of the most eliquent reviews of a metal/goth band ever. Hell, I'll probably break off a listen after work based on this review alone. Very nice.

I'm in a funk. I'm listening to nothing new right now music wise. I need to start over.
I'm so bored with my music right now I've been replaying the Books on CD version of "Atlas Shrugged." I mean I've read some books several times before but never right after I just finished it.
I've heard McMurtry before on YEP but am generally not very familiar with his music. Whenever I hear something described as spooky music wise that always sparks an interest. I think I just may have to go out and buy that latest disc. Nothing gets you going like a brand new CD. I also had the Eddie Vedder "Into the Wild" soundtrack in my hand and put it back. Should I buy that also??

That is some hard core stuff and certainly not for the faint of heart. For someone like you who classifies yourself as a "passive" listener to music that is a pretty bold choice. The same goes for the Waits. Kudos.
