my willpower is beginning to subside and i feel myself forced to buy a single speed soon...can anyone recommend a good place to buy a complete SS online...since no shops around here carry them? or is buying online totally a bad idea?

Either Speedgoat.com or Webcyclery.com. I've utilized both stores and both gave great service. I used Webcyclery when I built up my Surly. MeanTodd (owner) was very helpful when I was putting the bike together. I was new to bike building and had a few discrepancies in my order that he straigtened out for me. My sled rides like a charm. I believe they are both also bike shops, so you can justify your web purchases by saying you did use an LBS...just not so locally. Go singlespeed!!!!!!

Either Speedgoat.com or Webcyclery.com. I agree with Flying Monkey - I've dealt with both places numerous times and have nothing but good things to say about them.

I'd also highly consider looking for a used ride. The classifieds on MTBR usually have a few for sale at any given time if you can't find anything locally. Seems people buy them, ride a couple of times, then sell them. You can get a lot of bang for your buck this way.
