...passed away. For more years than I care to count, it didn't seem like Sunday without him. I will treasure my Towel forever.

Went to wing night and poured out some brew for myron.

I was genuinely sad that he passed. He managed to combine wit, passion and eccentric local flavor to spice up our pathetically homogenized macroculture.

The oddness of a Philadelphian vegan eating seitan wings and mourning the loss of a Steeler’s icon…

I was listening to Mark Maddens show this afternoon (Go Pens!!!!!) when he spoke a few minutes about Cope that really seemed spot on. As a kid I remember listening to Cope's show with my dad. It was on in the car and it was on the AM radio in our home. Myron was certainly a character but he had a way about talking to the average Yinzer that is simply not found out there today. Picture some insanely idiotic comment from some Iron City drinking Stiller fan lambasting Bradshaw and slurring his comments about how Cliff Stoudt or Joe Gilliam would be a better choice to start. Myron would listen, politely disagree, give a little "Hmmm...Haaa and Okie Dokie," and move on.

I'll tell ya what...a lot of people on this board still live in this great city and many others have moved away. Pittsburgh in the 70's as a kid...there wasnt anything better. Cope doing the color for Steeler games on Sunday afternoon....ahhhh. I feel fortunate that I got to experience first hand this little slice of Americana. Yes we did actually listen to the radio with the sound turned down on the television.

And then the mills closed...we had freaking Bubby Brister and the coke selling Pirate Parrot. Big hair. Lambert retired because of a freaking bum toe.

But then came Mario! And now 20 years later we have Sid the Kid!

This great city keeps plugging away and for all those folks who are travelling to State College for the Dirt Rag ride, do yourself a favor and swing down off the highway and check us out.

Have a shot and a beer in a town that knows a thing or two about having a shot and a beer. If you come, make a toast to Myron in a neighborhood like Millvale, Oakland, Carnegie or Brentwood. The locals will make you feel welcome and will most certainly drink a toast with you.

RIP

I have very fond memories of Myron Cope from my former life in the Burgh. Nobody who ever heard him will ever forget his closing "This is Myron Cope - on sports" in that one of a kind Yinzer drawl. And those eyes popping open and slight head roll at some thing that Myron found incredulous - nobody like that in Homogeneous American Media today. Rest in Peace, Myron.

Having been a lifelong Steelers fan, I was bummed when he went off the air and obviously even more bummed when he passed away.

I discovered the beauty that was Myron Cope by listening to Steelers games streamed online (since I live in the heart of Broncos country, that is the only way I could see/hear the games) before the NFL got all stingy and made you pay for listening to the radio. I loved his color commentary, his antics that would make the others cringe in the booth. He was the best!
