my clothes washer recently packed it in [rollie - 1971-2008 RIP] and i am looking for a replacement and in my never ending quest to be off the grid i thought about a non powered washer
wondered if anyone has dusted off the old wringer washers for post apocalypse use.....
:D

i think those are pretty rough on clothes. old-timey cloths must have been made tougher, because i can't see my t-shirts lasting too many washes if i'm rubbing them that hard.
my first thought when i saw the name of this thread was bike-powered washing machine tho. rip that motor out and hook up an old bike!

In an old Rivendell Reader I remember a drum washer that you manually turned for a couple of minutes. Dump out the soapy water and repeat to rinse. Don't remember the brand or price but I think it did a full load of wash at a time.

search google and youtube for the bicycle powered washing machine. pretty cool.
Maybe just pay this guy to wash your clothes?
Lots of old washers wtill in use........ones fron teh 20s and such actually had 2stroke engines on em.
