Anyone hear about Steelwool Cycles - more importantly anyone ever ride one? They are based in Quebec somewhere, and hand build lugged-steel frames in Canada.

Curious about the road bike Purelaine.
Thanks.

Not quite Quebec...
The Steelwool Bicycle Co.
422-b Richmond Rd.
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
K2A-OG2
There was a guy in Edmonton doing custom lugged steel frames, a gal I knew had a very nice custom built commuter/touring bike made. Started with J maybe?

But I think I've been drunk enough to wander into Quebec from there, back in the day ( could have read the website more closely, I suppose).
Hmmm... not Quebec. Even better!
BTW Rocky, I moved to Smithers, and it seems that they haven't heard of Global Warming yet. Good for a skier, not so good for an XC rider. So, I'm headed back to Alberta, and back to the Rockies.

T.You've only been there in the coldest winter we've had in 50 years...

Well it is a fair bit north of Edmonton and it is only February. Springtime is likely going to happen about May up there.

Actually, it is rideable on a cross bike, right now. On the roads. However, the cross bike (and my other bike) is in Jasper (and that's a long trip). Will know tomorrow, by the powers that be, where I'll be sent. Apparently, it will be Terrace -OR- Jasper. ( ... please, Jasper... I have visions of the South Boundary Trail... ;0)

Hey,
They are based in the Westboro neighborhood here in Ottawa. The frames are getting popular with the fixed gear crowd here in the city. They sell them out of their own retail space at the address Rocky quoted. The shop is called Tall Trees Bicycles. The owners of my LBS are really big on them and are carrying all three models. One of the guys is building himself a fixie on the blue frame. They are also manufacturing a bunch of components, headsets, cranks etc. I am pretty sure that the frames and components are all made in Taiwan, but I could be mistaken. They are pretty nice looking frames in person and the price isn't too bad... which reaffirms by belief that they are in Taiwan.

ooopppsss sorry,
The Pure Laine is indeed made in Canada. I checked the website too late. The other two frames are made in Taiwan.

I hadn't heard of Steelwool until I read this thread. After checking out their website I sent an email, and was soon having a conversation with one of the owners.
Long story short, we'll have a Tweed in-house within a few days for testing.
Thanks for the tip realSaint!

Family Guy, I can't read the right portion of your post because of the pic...
I found out about Steelwool from someone on here posting their bike.
