Hi,
I've my Schwinn Mesa GSD for about 5 months now and it is starting to act up on me. When i stop peddling the chain goes slack. i mean completely slack, it hits the frame around the wheel. WHY?
thanks,

Does your rear derailleur spring have any tension in it?
Give the cage (the part hanging down towards the ground) a tug.

does the freehub function correctly? like if you take the wheel out and spin the cogs in the back, do they spin freely in one direction?

Have you ridden the bike much, alot of times with inexpensive freehubs they will need a break in period until they get ratcheting freely, and during that time when you coast the chain will go slack. If you have been riding it, and this just started chances are the freehub may need to be serviced or replaced. Is this a bike from a department store or a shop. I have seen department store bikes brought into the shop, brand new with no lube in the hubs and other such weirdness. good luck.

I have a Frontier and I love it. I "fixed" mine with parts from UBI, Home Depot, and Kirk welding supply.

Wow, thanks for all the replies.
for "The Rose" yes, i generally ride about 10 miles a day back and forth to work (on nice days that is) and it used to be great, then after a long rainy-cold spell it started acting up.
I've tried lace wiring the cage in and upwards direction and that helps a bit, but the lacing wire makes it hard to shift and eventually comes off....so i think that the rear derailleur must be the culpret.
thanks for the help!
