I've been searching craigslist, ebay, and tones of sites for used bikes...So far 1 deal on a chameleon slipped through my fingers, then i lost to autobid on ebay on two nice hecklers. I still have 1-2months to look for a used bike..HERES my situation/question

I have $1500 (ill go up to $1700 if happens to be a great deal on a nice bike) i can spend on a Used bike, and if i buy new from a bike shop on credit i can spend $2100...

The Heckler has been recommended over and over and to keep my eyes away from hardtail and look for a FS bike. The 2008 heckler complete at $1999, is that a good setup? or just good frame with bunch of low end stuff?

Second for price range specified what other bikes should i look at? or should i just keep focus on a heckler.

I want the bike for XC so i can ride long trails with my girlfriend, and when im with friends i want to ride fast through tight trees on hilly terrain that has a few jumps, few drops, and some downhill where your very verticle riding over roots and some rocks. I had a rockhopper but it broke on these trails. Hope to get some input, and if your a bike mechanic or a rider who knows your stuff i would appreciate all the help i can get. This is a nice chunk of cash im lookin to dish out

best bang for your buck is your local bike shop, its still early in 08, im not sure what your weather is like, but we are happy here if people make it to our door, so i would ask them about leftover 07's, we do it for customers all the time, you'll be getting a new bike and a good deal, and supporting your lbs as opposed to online, just something to remember when it needs any repairs, should come with a warranty and service plan from the shop too, and a free h2o bottle ! good luck !

JK. Sorry bro no offese, couldn't resist. :p

BTW-where did you find a 2008 Heckler for $1999 complete? Just curious, that's cheaper than Santa Cruz sells them for.
