When your a big man, and you brake stuff. I go through so many seats, tires, bottom brackets, chainrings, brake pads, pedals that I cant afford expensive frames and parts. Carbon fiber when your 250 pounds and 6'4" is a stupid investment. I dont need a custom frame I need a custom 29" sandwich with extra protien and carbos. Some count ounces some count grams, I count Kilos. That's why I like Trek bikes. Their are dealers all over. I have had my frame and parts replaced many times at no cost. Trek sends new parts fast. That ASR 575 is sweet but It will break just as easy and two months to get your ride back is a joke. If you go way out back in the mountains like I do you dont risk injury just for a little air, so the all mountain and down hill shocks are not "choice" becouse the Idea you have is to maintain traction, not loose it. You can spend all the money you want on the most trendy components and sports drinks you want but it will never replace the number one thing it takes to drag your heavy arse up a mountain "meat on pedals". Dont let nifty gear replace your confidence and self esteem. But then again we gotta keep out local bike shops in the red. :)

I knew that you meant out of the red.
I am shorter but close to your weight in a bad month. I break stuff JRA too.
I used to ride a GF full suspension bike. Broke it 4 times. Same company as Trek. Yes the turnaround was quick but it really got to be a pain in the ass.
I think if I were you,it would be a steel 29 hard tail 1x8 w/ a Fox or Marzochi fork.
My current favorite is a fairly bombproof Monocog Flight 29 singlespeed [Redline]
My dualie is a Vicious w/ a steel front triangle. Unfortunately the back is Titus machined aluminum. The aluminum broke and Titus were VERY VERY VERY BAD AT THE TIMELY TURNAROUND. BEWARE IF YOU ARE A CLYDE LOOKING AT TITUS BIKES.
