Not a lot of clearance over that front tire, eh?:D

The photo is a bit deceptive, the Kenda's are pretty tall and there is still an 1" or so clearance. The bike is a 2X8.

Here's another odd one in the stable (lousy picture I know). It's an 98 Mongoose 10.9 with a Look Fornales and a Cane Creek ST thudbuster. This one is a 1X8.

Does that DA derailleur even make it onto the inner cassette cogs or are you limited to the highest 6 or so? Cool setup, nonetheless!

ps feel free to post pics of the Ventana and your pint glass collection, too. :)

Since it is a 2X8 the DA covers the entire range quite easily.

The Ventana is an older 1998 El Chiquillo just back from Ventana after having been repainted. It await's a build next week.

I will put up a couple of pics of the glasses.

Cool. I have an old 105 der that I was thinking of putting on this 1x8 mtn tourer I'm building up, but didn't know if it'd handle a wide(r) range like that. Good to know — saves me a few bucks on buying a cheap long cage.

That should work nicely. Mine has to cover 22X32 and 32X12 and does it quite easily.

:D Nope, and the pedals are flats.

Awesome, awesome and awesome. I declare this to be the best pictures thread of the site. Based on the fact that all these bikes are in your living room, I'm assuming that you aren't married.

The truth is I am indeed married, all the bike are not in the living room, some are in the dining room and some (not yet pictured) are in the extra bedroom. Bare frames are hanging outside in the eaves of the roof.

How do you like them?

They are On One Mungo bars and they are perfect for the bike. Comfortable with several good hand positions.

Nice. My wife thinks that all bikes must be in the basement or outside. She also thinks that 4 bikes is the absolute most bikes anyone should own!!!! I'm working on her.

I also love the bars. I was thinking about those for my Surly Steamroller. I'd love to hear about them.

I have ridden a friend's bike with Nitto Moustache bars and thought I wouldn't like any drop. The Mungo's on the new On-One website (hate it) look like they have a signifigant amount of drop. In the pictures it looks as if you have the bars rotated so that the drop occurs in the horizontal plane (so the tops are flat) and that the drop actually occurs on the ends

I guess what I'm trying to ask is have you (or anyone else) ever ridden the Nitto's, and how do they compare to the Mungos?

-Rob.

mootsguy
03-29-2008, 05:12 PM
The Mungos have virtually no drop, something like .5" at the most. I tried the Nittos and didn't like the drop much so I switched to the Mungos and have been happy ever since.

Here are two views of the bars that might show the drop better than the other pictures.

Here is the only current picture I have of the bike;

http://www.bicyclegroup.com/forum/member-images/1192466937/med_gallery_3_2_70715.jpg

The bike has been everything from a flat bar roadie, to a full on CX ride to its' present incarnation of a cross between the two extremes. An excellent ride that has found a semi-permanent home in my stable, at least until I can pick up a Salsa Chile Con Crosso.

That is my 96 Stumpy that like many of my rides has seen several configurations during its' lifetime. Currently it is a SS that uses WI ENO stuff with an eccentric hub for chain tensioning.

It also uses some Specialized XL21 rims laced up a long time ago radially in front and radially on the non-drive side and X2 on the drive side in back.
