A coworker is looking for a beginner bike, basic hardtail mtn bike, for $300.00 or less. He is 6'4" and about 250 lbs. He also may have been dropped on his head as a child.
Any suggestions??

Convince him to spend more money. $300 will get your friend a death-trap, especially at over 200lbs.

Yeah, not gonna get anything good at that price. Unless he buys used and if he doesnt know anything about bikes he shouldnt buy a used bike.

he doesnt have to spend alot, just make sure he at least spends enough for double wall rims.

thanks for the replies. extending his budget is not likely. He is ready to drop $100 or $150 on a WalMart bike. I convinced him that $300 would likely get him something much better, a low end bike store job, or even from Sports Authority etc.

He could look at a Specialized Hardrock or a Trek 3700.
Just get him over to the local bike shop to check out what they have in his price range.
Also I'd suggest you have him take a look at the information in the link below.
