I just spoke with Mark atGT customer service. Apparently their company bought only the name from GT back in 2002. I need, first of all, to know what year my GT Ricochet is (anodized blue) and secondly to find out what size seat post it takes?
Any help would be appreciated.

These things are turning up everywhere without seatposts

I'm not positive about GT, but a lot of companies include the year as part of the serial number on the bottom bracket shell (at the beginning or the end).
Just take it to a shop and have them caliper the seat tube; they should be able to figure it out pretty easily.
GOOD LUCK!!

I can't help with the GT-specific questions, but I would suggest looking for an inexpensive caliper. I picked up a cheap (like 99 cent cheap) one from a bargain bin at the auto parts store. I use it quite often. If you are going to be working on your bike or looking to replace parts, a caliper comes in real handy.
