Well, I finally got my single speed together, and here it is:
17" Misfit, rigid fork.
White Industries Eno Dos, 38/16 and 35/19 gear ratios, Eno hubs, Magura Louise Carbon BAT brakes, FSA carbon os bar, carbon seatpost, and carbon faced stem. Oh yeah, and an FSA carbon/ti seat.
Got it very muddy today. It was a blast! Great big fat tires too, 2.55 front and rear, just till I get a little more comfortable with the bike.

I love it so far. The big ring is great on the road. The trail gear felt a little tall today, but it was muddy, and I'm used to a slightly easier trail gear. After a couple of rides, I'm sure I'll like the gear. A little faster than my old ratio.

Did you have any problems on this bike with the square taper BB and the White Ind cranks not fitting with enough clearance like your Dad's bike?

None whatsoever, but I put a Phil Wood bottom bracket in it:D

So that may be the solution for the other bike, although that's the same setup as Myron's problematic crank.
Quite the full on pimpin' build you got there.... you're single handedly sequestering a bunch of carbon out of the environment.

Well, I am on the environment committee at work:p. Just doing my part.

Sweet lookin' build. How's it ride?

Well, I've only had it on the trail for a little over 2 hours so far (today's ride), and it was very, very, very nice. The carbon goodies keep the weight quite reasonable considering the 2.55 tires. My last regular ride was a Specialized Epic, and this this feels like it weighs half of what the old bike did. It doesn't, of course, but it is very responsive. A real singlespeed doesn't waste any rider effort. Those hubs feel like they would roll forever, too.
Next Saturday I will be riding roughly 70km of road on it, and will let you know what I think of the rather slight saddle:eek:

Yeah, 70k ought to tell the tale.

Yup, Weirwolfs. Like I said, I've only had them on for one ride, but I found them much, much grippier than the Kenda Karmas on pa's bike, even at a pretty high psi.
That looks very very familiar. You'll love the gearings. :cool:23439
I dig all the baby/toddler bit's and their reflections. Are you going to JiggleJam this weekend?
Lee, those brakes on you ride look boss. Also, I noticed that your saddle was lower than your bars, how do you like that type of geometry?

I did raise the seat a bit once I was on the trail. Now the seat is maybe half an inch below the bars. However, I have what would politely be referred to as odd proportions. I have short legs for my height. Most of the difference is made up in my torso and arms, with the rest being my pencil neck:o. Once I am completely familiar with the bike, the seat will go up just a hair again, but that's all. I still have to get accustomed to doing all the suspension duties with my arms and legs, and would like to leave a little room for my junk.
And yeah, the brakes are very nice.

wait till you ride them babies on hardpack or dry - they be great on corners... I love them...
I have love for Exi's - but once I took the Weirs out... I never changed them... only on really wet and muddy - the Exi's are better.
I be trying out the WTB Prowler soon... already on the bike ;)

Thanks. It gets its first night ride tonight. Hopefully I don't crash again. Don't want to scratch the bike;). I actually half-assed washed it last night, which really isn't like me at all. New bike syndrome, I guess.

Fantastic looking bike! It looks light, what does it weigh?
LeeMcGough
05-31-2008, 07:00 PM
I actually haven't put it on a scale yet. And now there's a good deal of mud caked on it, so in order to get an accurate measurement, I would have to wash it. I'm not sure if you are even allowed to wash single speeds though.;). Maybe I'll ride it in the rain to knock the mud off, then post the weight. Feels pretty light, probably sub-twenty.

This just arrived in the mail. More carbon! Putting it the bike tonight, and hopefully, the rain will eventually stop so I can get a trail ride in soon.
