The Bike Check thread is #10 out of 21 threads so it seems to be catching 'bot spam.
When anyone sees the spam posts, click on the exclamation point and report it, that's the best revenge for the tool 'bots that seem to be targeting this thread.

dirt rag really needs to get one of those handy-dandy image verification plugins for the user registration portion of the site. these bots keep getting back on without a problem.

yeah, we sleep sometimes too you know!
captcha images for registration will only help a little bit, sometimes people sign up the users for the site, then hit the go button for the bot.

i used to run a phpBB forum, and when i added that image verification to the registration process most of the spam users dissapeared. granted that forum wasn't NEARLY as popular as this one, it at least kept the web-crawler bots out.

I still like the idea of a bike related skill testing question to sign up.

that's probably one of the most likely causes of spam too.

Anyone have any speculation on why the 'bots target the middle thread in the list about 5:1 over the first thread?

The spam level on here is just getting CRAZY! Some of them aren't even reportable on my computer. They have the window stretched, and I can't scroll over to report the post. Maybe that's a setting error on my side, but I never see it with the usual posts.

I think it might be time for the image verification software. "New Posts" only seems to bring spam anymore:mad:

the rss feed is useless these days...
useless like a fox.
a dead fox.
full of maggots.
unless you consider it in terms of the 'cycle of life' then i suppose it's not useless...i mean the fox not the feed.

And there's a lot of hardcore porn spam using remote IMG URL's ad loading really big images and video into the spam posts.
It might be necessary to turn off the remote image link function again.

They're loading hard core porn images into the post using the remote IMG function (like those bike pictures that are wider than 500 pixels).

I usually just post a reply titled "spam alert". Mods must see it. The next time I check, the spam is gone.

One of us will report it and then the mods will nuke the spam and send the Hells Angels after the spammers.

I didn't know about the reporting icon. Maybe I've just been tipping off someone who knew better.
