Once I get off the thang ,I'll shoot some pics. Man ,this bike is cool though. Climbs like a 4WD. I had read reviews where it said SRAM X-5 sucks, but it reminds me of the old Deore push push levers. The BB5's squeal a bit, but at least people know I'm on the trail;) And they stop fairly well. But hey ,the way I look at it ,is it took a long time to haul my 240 lbs frame up that thar hill. Why do I want to stop going down:Dyee haa!!!!!!!!!!!!!I did have to break down and buy a shim for my Thudbuster though. The ride is just a wee bit harsh. But that means more power transfer which means speed Well , 10mph on the flats is fast to me:p. This $700 bike ROCKS

I like a good mid level hard tail. I ride one myself. Mountain Bike Action reviewed the Trek 6000 in their new issue as part of an $800 trail bike shoot out. Looks nice.
My buddy rides a older 6000, I think its a 1997. The bike is still going strong and my buddy can ride just about anything on it. Good stuff. Lets see some pics!

i just finnished reading that same trail bike shootout in mba!(:oi needed a mtn bike mag fix!done read the newest 'rag 50 times, and july 1 seems a long way off)

i've still got my 2000 6000 (that's actually what i call it:rolleyes:).it's pretty much just a frame on the shelf right now,but we had a lot of fun times (after i ditched the anemic manitou magnum fork for some '03 marzocchi love-BTW,thas the fork on my ol monocog now-a-dayz).

one of these dayz,i'm gunna dig out what stock parts i haven't donated to other/other's causes, track down some parts, and restore her to her former glory.

where"s the pics?we love porn, and "once ya go black,ya never go back";)

I got the Red and White model. I think it's cool that MBA did the review of the $800 bikes. It seems to address the need for our current economic state. I contacted the Rag about reviewing some working mans bikes. Karen Brooks replied stating that most $700-900 bikes pretty much had the same characteristics. So they found it was better to review the ones that were unique. I like the Rag, I've been a subscriber since the early 90's, but I think it has gone downhill since M. Browne left as the editor:(

while mr browne-stone is definately missed,it's not downhill, just a neighboring trail, mate.karen's a good kid,i've talked to her several times before she sat in the big seat.her heart's right for the job, just takes a little time to adjust the styles to mesh.besides, how kool would it be to test a jabberwocky?

steve (the former trucker w/ the broken neck,if yer readin this karen:))

You already read your review of 800$ bikes. Did you need it repeated? Karen does a great job! Mo is lucky to have her for what he pays.
DR is more a piece of art than a consumers guide. It's just not fair to compare the two.

I think if your gonna take the time to review bikes, then you should look at all that exists, and not what you want to ride around on for 3 months. When Browne was editor, he still looked at me as a long time subscriber and valued my opinion. Ms. Brooks looks at me as some retro old fart who doesn't fit in the new realm of the sport. But I'm sticking with them till the 20th anniversary. The mag just doesn't have the same feel anymore. We all seem to grow and nurture a bit. But I'm giving up all the mags. I'd rather just spend my time riding. And that's a good thing:) I had some good times with Dirt Rag, and don't feel that they need me as a subscriber anymore

+1. If I wanted to waste time on that nonsense I'd read Buycycling. And I don't read Buycycling.

Dirt Rag certainly falls outside of what could be considered MTB culture. However, "MTB culture" is about as realistic as the things they tell you to buy in comercials or that the families have on sitcoms. I don't read the other mags for the same reasons I don't watch TV. I'm not their target audience, and I will never spend what they think I should to buy what they say I should.

Dirt Rag is a breath of fresh air in a smog filled world. People who actually ride bikes. Not people who drive to the trails, or people who are only interested in "going big", or concerned with the next uber-gizmo that will be so pasee in six months. Dirt Rag is run by people who ride to work. People who tour across the country. People who see cycling as a lifestyle, not something you get dressed up to do with your look-alike clown buddies.

I appreciate their reviews and feel that they offer an interesting take on a diverse cross section of bikes. I can not think of another magazine that would review the bikes they do. And they are all bikes of interest. Maybe not bikes I would ever buy, but certainly of interest. Then there are the articles. I have 'Rags back to 105 (Christina Beggy?) and read them every time I'm in the can. I can flip to any of the reviews and before re-reading the review I know what it says. But the articles always have a piece of magic I never saw. And the stories/lit contest? I love them more every year. Enthusiast art? Hell yeah! Rider's Eye rocks my world. Hell, they even review beer. :D

Yes sir, make mine a Dirt Rag

*Rant off*

Its good to hear you're enjoying your bike. Sometimes it is hard to get across to people that you don't need a $3K wunderbike to ride. Its the person on top that matters.

Oh, and I am still holding out for a 29er shootout of some sort. :o

Just my opinion, don't mean to offend. It's just that in the beginning, you knew you were reading something differant. It was almost like hard to find anything about bicycling. It was more stuff you did while bicycling. I have about the 1st 20 issues and then some key issues after that. And I like going back to reminince. But for me ,the mag is just not fun anymore. Even these forums, I remember when they 1st started out, it was people conversing with others about the lifestyle. Now, almost every post that I put on. I get someone telling me how bad my grammer or spelling is, and that I should not be taken seriosly. I'm sick of it. I'm an old hippie who enjoies riding my bike and listening to some cool tunes. I done feel like I've been run out of town. So I'm just gonna quit it all, enjoy time with my wife. Enjoy riding in the mountains. That's it. That's my whole take on this life thing:D
