Hanging on ye olde garage wall . . .

2006 Fuji Discovery 1
24263
I dig it. Full of mud at the Branford CT Supply Ponds park

1994 ish Mongoose Hilltopper rigid
24264
This fugger is painful to ride . . . . with the new shifters (low level Shimano jobs) i bust a knuckle every time I hit a bump. Needs new handlebars and shifters.

1980something Ross Eurosport Road Tank
24265
Found this fugger in the girlfriend's shed, collecting dust. A new set of tubes, tires, and pads, it runs like new. A little Scotchbrite to the wheels. The bike is pushing 40 lbs and is NOT fun going uphill.

14 years and that Mongoose still has every single CPSC reflector on it. Impressive.

That Ross is dying to be fixed. Then it might only weigh 30 lbs.

Less than that, probably. Even with TrueTemperReynoldsDeddaci Gaspipe conduit, er, I mean tubing.

You're stuck with Ashtabula unless you want to change to 3piece, which would be about as heavy. But the wheels are steel, the bars and seatpin also, and that couch they tried to pass off as a saddle has to weigh abunch.

The shiftamabobs, block, extra chainwheel and twice the brakes you need to go fixed? Probably got their own gravitational field.

If you could find a decent freewheel hub wheelset, used, and Rotafix that sucker I bet you could bring it in at well under 30#. Slap some fenders on it and you'd have a hellova bad weather beater.

But if'n it were me, I'd prolly Singlelate the 'goose and call it a day.

Or not.

Then I'd have a (lot of) beer.

Oh yeah, cool bikes btw. I'm a sucker for old bikes with a story. Time capsule sort of thing, dontchaknow.

I actually thought about changing the cockpit to a more cyclocross type job, since the bike geometry seems more suited for that. I feel bent over like a roadie when I'm on the 'Goose. I already get bent over every payday, and that's enough. That thing has taken a beating ober the years and it's still in decent shape. I chose that over the front suspension Hilltopper due to being broke after spending lots of cash for car stereo gear that sat around for years unused.

The first serious crash I had was about a month after getting the bike . . . . I found some local "trail" that was more of a dirt dump field that was home stewed by the local BMX punks. These fuggers tend to fill in the "gaps" or "holes" they dig between ramps with shopping carts, old lawnmowers, broken bottles, etc. I tried to "be too cll too fast" and make a jump before learning how to get airborne, ended up on by back in the shopping cart, bike on top of me. 14 years later, i live across the street from the spot. Went in with the Fuji and tackled the hills but steered around the jumps. Found two teenager types in there yesterday with their pants down, called the coppers, and the bastards never came.

There's a story associated with every bike!

Quill stem on the 'goose, innit? 1" by the look. Nitto Technomic stem would get the bars way up. Or if that don't float your boat there's a bunch of other long quill/high rise stems out there. But if you want a cross vibe, a Technomic and a pair o' B115s would look pretty snazzy. And maybe a pair of the Cane Creek drop levers with gum hoods. Sure would set that paint off. Or maybe Dirt Drops. The mind reels.

Nekkid grommets and the piggy-piggies never showed? Maybe they had some "real crime" to deal with. But I doubt it.

Oh yeah, and are those fender eyelets I see? Just sayin' it would make a cool townie...

I tend to not use superlatives. Sorry, Dave. :(
