the overall fit of the bike is off ... i had to have the seat pushed all the way back on the rails to pedal decently .. so got one with more offset so i wouldn't bend the rails yet again
the kids is a trek 3700 ... went with the cheapest decent one just to find out if he would enjoy the sport ... hah he is hooked ...
yeah it is fun havin em to ride with.

Thanks for the post. I really enjoy those times when I can ride with my sons; you are a lucky guy. My oldest and youngest have migrated big time to long boarding and it is hard to get them out on two wheels these days but I can still coax my middle son out, although it is usually on pavement. What brand seat post is that and where did you find it? I could use one of those.

yeah, right now he is at my parents for the week, never thought i would miss having him ride with me ... but i missed em bein there today ... hah!
on that note tho, i did over 20 miles today .. the longest i have rode in a single day so far... yay! ... oww! ... to much stuff hurts right now ...
the seatpost is from Titec El Norte Bent Prolite ... i got it from pricepoint .. but i have found it at other locations as well (both the prolite and the non prolite version, not sure the difference other then the non version has a chromeish seat clamp and the one i have is black) ... it does wonders on seat poss ... and with it (and a new saddle) so far i haven't bent the rails yet .. and i seem to have a lot more power when going up a hill (i still do it seated) ...
fixing to put a different handlebar and stem on it in the next day or two ...
-Devil-
07-20-2008, 10:42 PM
just changed out my stem and handlebars ... and took it for a couple mile spin ... feels a lot better, now my arms are more loose ...
still got to play around with the angle of the bars a bit more ... but it feels about right, where i have it now ...
also put two spacers above the stem .. to help my weight distro (i hope) when i am going up hill...

yup, that's how I ended up finding the perfect bike for me. buy a bike, make adjustments and buy different components like stems and seatposts till you find the angles that work, then buy a bike that's designed like that.

yeah, thats pretty much what i am doing ... one thing i have found out ... i should have gone with a 17" or 18" bike even tho i could barely stand over the top tube ... the ones i have tried ... have the BB location when compared to the seat in a better angle then the one i have (well it is ok now but still) ... and other things like that ...

I was a little worried about top tube height when I threw 29" wheels on my bike. I could can myself pretty easy, but in reality (and 4 years on the bike) it's never happened.

yeah same thing here .. the 16" frame is pretty close to rackin some stuff ... but thats the only measurement my lbs checked, and now i see it is the least important one ... but i can ride a 17 and 18 better

... my road oriented bike... Hell son, that's not a road bike, its a Monstercross waiting to happen! Seriously, where are the drops and fatties? You will have more fun than you ever knew imaginable. Talk about improved bike handling skills!!
... and a "road oriented bike" with a swap to the original tires ;)

hah i had to look up monstercross ... interesting concept ...
just got back from putting a little over 10 miles on the bike ... all i can say is wow ... top speed i got was just shy of 30mph .. avg speed was 16 ... it rides like a dream (after a few tweaks of the seat and such) ...
even took a part of a local trail about 2 miles of it to see how it did .. i went through sections of it faster then i do on my other bike ... but these tires just bury themselves in the sand ...
i already know that finding a tire with just a little more bite, is on my list now that i know it is off-road capible ... or maybe one that is a little bit larger ... but still road-able ...
i wasn't sure about getting a 'road oriented bike' ... but now that i have rode it ... heh i now have another way to get some miles in ... even after the miles today .. only reason i stopped is because the sun went down .. not even tired yet haha ...

Devil, there's no shame in owning a road bike, and I didn't mean to imply otherwise. Hell, I have a Pista, a Monstercross, a Schwinn 3 speed commuter, and I had a 24 speed road bike with a carbon fork, until some assmunch stole it
Road bikes are a responsible alternative to the trails on days that are sub-par in the weather department. There are also few things to condition mountain biking legs (specifically SS legs) like a mile climb on a road bike, standing and on the hoods. Its a lot of fun, and a great way to catch up with a friend on a lazy day.
Yes sir, road bikes are fun, and you got yourself a nice one

I wasn't there, but I suspect he was still doin' time in a honky tonk prison, most likely with swingin' doors, a jukebox and a barstool. And I wouldn't be the least surprised to learn he was the only hell (his) mama ever raised.
