The Lake County Forest Preserve is having a general work day at Gander Mountain on Saturday 1/17 at 1:00. If you Live in the area and are interested in seeing legalized singletrack please come out and help the Northern Illinois Trailworkers Asociation (NITA) make a good impression on the LCFPD.

While we will not be building singletrack we will be building a positive relationship with the LCFPD, and this is an important first step to gaining access and legal trails!

I'd like to know more about the Northern Illinois Trailworkers Association (NITA). I did a quick search on the Web, but came up empty. Do they have a website? I'm desperate for some off-road riding in Lake County IL.

NITA is a new advocacy group. Right now we are somewhat loosly organized because we are still working on formalizing things. Have you been to illinoismtb.com (http://www.illinoismtb.com)? For now that's where most things are posted.

We are currently finalizing proposals for Lakewoods and Gander. That being said my first impression is that we need to invest some time and be patient as we work with the land manager. The Lake County Forest Preserve District does not understand the difference between mtn bikes and motorcycles. So we need to help educate them.

I'm currently planning on attending the general workdays out at Gander on the 3rd Saturday of every month at 1:00pm. The goal is to build a good relationship with the land manager. Try to show that we may share the same goals.
