hey crankcrushers, what do y'all use for pedals? i used to have some of those campus SPDs on my ss since it also is my townie bike but just got some SPDs with an aluminum beartrap on both sides, not the DX pedals but I figured they weigh about the same (but not as light as pedals can be) as my old ones and give me more cushion for the pushin'.
anybody heard any more word on the SSWC2002? all i can find is 'downieville oct 12-13'...
It ain't pretty (http://www.yubaexpeditions.com/pages/entry/entry.frame.html) but it is SS. Ride On!

I use those Shimano pedals...I forget the name/number...that are SPD's on one side of the pedal and then just a regular flat on the other side. They work great and are good for riding to the store or doing a race.

right on. a friend of mine in albuquerque was telling me about some pedals he'd seen that were rigged up with 4" planks of wood for the ultimate in platform kindness. maybe bonus minutes are given at SSWC for anybody who can whittle their own components prior to the race?
on the beer side of things, check out rogue's american ale. don't look at the label and think "america the great" and patriotism and all that, just think of rock and roll and handbuilt steel frames.
last comment/query for now: does anyone have a feel for the lifespan of titanium handlebars? i've got a 9-year-old DEAN bar on my SS that is sweet but i'm wondering if it is up to the pulling and impacts of suspensionless single speeding.

For plain-jane city pedaling I rock a pair of Sun Ringle ZuZus. Nice and cheap, pretty beefy. Caught 'em on curbs for a little while and my shins may never recover, but they've proven indestructable so far.
When I need clipless I roll on a pair of 2001 Time Atacs. Some people think the amount of float in them sucks, but I kind of like it. Shifting around helps me keep my lousy balance.

EBs on the trail bike, and a pair of mid-80s Exage platforms, sans toe clips, on the beer bike. I love the EBs, but do need a new pair of shoes since sole stiffness is pretty critical with those platforms

I use Time ATAC's. I think they are the best pedals on the market, right now. Except, for the squeaking problem I'm having with them right now.
The cleat/cam is rubbing against the pedal body, which makes a very annoying squeak. Has anyone experienced this problem and is there any remedy? I've lubed them, and even dabbed some Phil's grease on them. They are only 9 months old.

I had WTB custom made titanium bars that lasted six years, but that was on a suspended bike. All of my bars (titanium and aluminum) have bent close to the stem, so keep an eye on that area. Like any part, it depends on how many miles you put on it and how hard on your stuff you are. I don't break things often.

I use two different pedals. The clipless variety are oZna H.O.X. These are nice pedals, and they came with two interchangable cages, one that is more XC, the other is big and says DH/freeride. I usually use just the XC cages because the other ones don't allow me to clip in as easy. The platform pedals are Odyssey Triple Traps. These babies grip like no other platform pedal I've ever used. This being said after about 6-8 years of BMX riding/racing as a youngin.
