Lately my old no-name seat has been feeling like a sitting on a fireplace brick. I know that a seat is a highly personal, maybe the most personal piece of gear on a bike, but if anyone has any advice and/or recommendations on a sleek, fairly light seat, I would appreciate it.
Just so you know, I'm 5'10" 150lbs, not a clydesdale by any means, looking for a narrow seat that is just a little more gentle on my narrow white ass.
Thanks.

I like WTB saddles, pretty much all of them.

I hate new seats too. I've been transferring an old Vetta onto each new bike for about ten years now. I'm 6'1" and 160 lbs. The only new seat I've found that I really like is a Titec Amore. Go to www.titec.com and sometimes they have web specials. There's also another Titec seat with the same shape as the Amore, but I forgot the name.
Another option - If your old seat shell and rails are good, just rip off the old cover and foam and recover it. You can usually get the goods from an art supply store, plus you can cover it with whatever you want and get that custom feel.

At last, a kindred spirit.

Mohaka, if you won't be in the wet much, a Brooks is the be all and end all of seats. Set you back some (understatement), but check out the Swallow or Swift. Wallbike has a great return policy: if you don't like it in six months you can return it no questions asked.

Wooglin,
Thanks for the links. I will check it out right now. A return policy even -- must be some good seats!

I LOVE my WTB seat. It's a Speed V. I'd highly recommend it. They sell for about $34 in shops. I got mine off Ebay for $21.

I had a WTB seat that came with my Gary Fisher. After about three months I just could not take it any more. I ended up with some cusshie seat I got at a local bike shop, nothing fancy, or sleek looking but it feels so much better.

The WTB seats that come standard on Gary Fishers are junk. I'm talking WTB Speed V. It's very comfortable.

There is nothing like a Brooks. I have a B.17 on my Surly Crosscheck. It weighs a ton but it is supercomfortable.

After a few months riding on it, I got back on my mt bike with and old Flite that I used to think it was the sh!t...I couldn't believe how uncomfortable it was. I'm thinking about getting a brooks for my mt bike but is a matter of aesthetics...my kawasaki green bike wouldn't look right with an antique brown saddle...oh well who cares. As soon as I save some dough I'm getting myself another Brooks...of course I could try that old black Professional from the 70's that my father gave me.

Now they make them in British racing green.

I also have a Salsa Zona Tres saddle and it just doesn't compare to the brooks.

I'm just wondering...

Do you guys sit alot when you ride? I'm almost never in my saddle if I'm off road.

I'm not in the saddle much either when I ride.
Riding 1-3 hours is no problem, but when I longer rides, around 4+ hours my ass and "soft tissues" begin to get sore.
Ass soreness I can tolerate pretty well--"soft-tissue" soreness, now that can't be good.

Where I do most of my riding, the terrain is about 50/50 up hill, down hill so I do spend almost as much time seated as I do standing.

I have a Selle Italia Nitrox Saddle. It's hard and slick, void of cushion or texture, it makes my ass hurt! So I run it low and jump too much. But I sure do love the red glitter upolstry!

I picked up the WTB Rocket V Stealth, and must say that it's the best thing I've put on my ride yet. I've done an 8 hour road ride on it and only felt minor soreness at the end.

i just got one real cheap....

compared to any other seats i tried, it feels like a cushy ass couch.

it is nice, it is cheap (mine was real cheap on ebay $2), but it is not super skinny or light...
