I just called the local bike shop (I purchased my Rocky and a trail-a-bike from them) to see if they could squeeze my screwed up rear wheel in for a quick fix before the race on Sunday. They told me neither they, or any other bike shop they were aware of, does repairs on Saturday. WTF? I've never heard of this policy before. Is this as common as they claim? I mean, I'm friends with everyone at the other shop I frequent - but I'd think I'd have heard of this or seen them lounging around waiting to pounce on the next sale.

<edit> I talked them in to taking me on, guess I'll have to take in a six pack. <edit>

Wrenches need days off for training. More importantly, the six pack will go a loooonnnnngggggg way.

Most mechanics also double as sales staff (at least that's how it has was in the shops I've worked at). Since the weekends get pretty busy, they usually won't schedule any repairs. We do however spend a good part of Saturday and Sunday doing simple stuff like tire/tube changes.

They fixed it right away, very cool. Yep, the explained the tire and tube thing. I've just had some tight relationships with shops and never heard a thing about this. Live and learn.

most wrenches in my area work some weekends...it has to do with racing. They race on Sundays, so they take Sunday-Monday off.

On the other hand, what business doesn't cover itself on the weekend. I would think some would like Wednesday and Thursdays off, when no one is in the woods!!!
