Has anyone ever had any run-ins with these lying misrepresenters?

http://www.wheeled-locusts.org

Listen, I'm pretty green, but these folks go to far, dispersing misinformation, espousing an ideology of hate, going so far as to say. "Mountain Bikes are our Problem- Not Cattle, ORV’s or Crowds of Hikers."

These folks have ruffled my feathers. All the low-resolution pics on their site, and the single picture of a mud-wallow that appears again and again
really paint us as scumbags....and its entirely untrue. This site seeks to make us all look like rule-breaking fringe nutters.

Maybe these jackasses are responsible for the serious stink-eye or cold shoulder I get when I slow down and say "hi" to a hiker and carefully...and slowly pass by. I am not a rule-breaking abuser of public lands. What moron thinks wetlands make a "fun and challenging place to ride"? Don't make me out to be a terrorist when I try to be a diplomat!

Because I'm equally capable of being a very vocal soldier in this debacle.

Now I know who to blame. Don't expect me to sit idly by. This month I'll be joining IMBA.

Also, someone should check out this page and nail the bastards for copyright violation.

Yeah, typical Vandeman spew. Do a search for Michael Vandeman - He has a long history of this.

Whatever. He has a right to put up whatever web page he feels. And has a right to oppose legislation or action by people he doesn't agree with.

Luckily, there are more cyclists every day.

They've been around for a long time. They're mostly harmless because they're so skewed that even people and organizations that lean toward anti-mountain biking shy away from them.

don't bother responding to them, as they will simply cut and paste your correspondence in order to fit their needs.

I see that. It appears any time a biker that has lost his temper and writes to these nuts, they post the little part where the cyclist tells them to "F*** OFF!" Kinda makes us look bad, I know. That's why I'm getting the IMBA membership...I'll let them fight on that front. I'll keep continuing the struggle for utopia elsewhere.

"Some people complain that dogs, illegal drinking and other activities are problems too ... none of these activities has ever caused the kind of extensive damage seen here"

Err no, all those things can kill, mame and cause health hazards to people though... I bet this lot drive about poluting the atmosphere though on their way to enjoy their 2000 acres of bike free parkland... blinkin' eck, can't they just give you a few miles to build trails on and maintain them properly?

I've just come back from Scotland where there is no trespass law... thank goodness

On a related topic, I wrote Vandeman once asking if trail running should be allowed - in wilderness areas - apparently running is just as bad as bikes - who knew? I just figured a fit [lighter] person in running flats would do less trail damage than some pear shaped fella in 5 lb hiking boots. Apparently I was wrong
Nut is too light a term for this guy.
