Just wondering if anybody out there - got tired - found a tumor - and then? What the recuperation time might be etc. :( Just wondering. I'm going for a big ride to clear my head this weekend.

I just hate jumping into this forum, but you're getting no love. Its been bugging me since you posted this. Guess we need more posters of the female persuasion, but in the meantime, hope everything goes well for you.

I have an apt. with a specialist surgeon. I am staying positive. Thank you for kind attention. I did ride 27mi. in the Mt's this weekend and that has to be the best therapy - it was so fantastic.

Yes, good luck to you Divscotty. I saw this as well and was waiting for some women to respond.

Good luck Diva,
I'll say a prayer for you and drink a Mike's for ya.
Not to be overly nosey: but is your appointment to have a biopsy done?
Cheers.

Hopefully your appointment goes/went well. And regardless of the outcome, there are lots of things you can do to stay in the game . . . like riding your bike and staying positive. I know it's kind of lame to say when I'm not in your shoes, but I'm sure it's true. Good luck,
T

Hey thanks guys. You made me smile. This really is a great forum.

I may be the only Woman that comes to this site regularly. Too bad.

I had the biopsy and it was odd. Now doesn't that tell a person a lot. The specialist/surgeon is suppose to get more information and give me options as to what to do with the information. She is a top-not specialist so I should be getting the best care.

I am feeling real good this week and I rode hard this weekend. Gadfry - it was wonderful - I had the ride of a lifetime this Sunday.

Fall riding is awesome!

Glad to hear that you had a really good weekend riding, Diva.
I imagine it's really beautiful out in the Oregon woods.
It's very colorful out here. I love the patterns the leaves make on the trails. and all the earthy smells.

My friend Matt and I pissed off a bowhunter pretty good a few evenings ago. That doesn't happen at any other time of year.

Glad to hear you are getting along well Divscotty. Yep, I hack of the hunters on a regular basis. Around there there are lots of them hunting birds with their dogs. Needless to say, boys on bikes are a big distraction. Those dogs are impressive though, I'd love to have an animal that well trained. My dogs act as if I'm their slave.

Indeed I am. And hearing about you guys riding in the woods is making me jealous as I sit here eating beef jerky and drinking lukewarm tapwater in a Vegas hotel.

It's great to see you using the forum - yeah, it would be nice if more women logged on regularly, but you've got to start somewhere!

Ride on,

Oh yea. The poor guy in cammo was scrambling up the cut-bank when I went by. During the xc race there was about 10 of us bunched up I was last of course but anyway the poor guy was trying to cross the road to his truck. I just hollard Hey Buddy Good Luck ! and flew by this was a really fast part of the ride. We all talked about the poor bow hunter over a beer that night. Good memories:D

Divscotty,

Although I have not had the experience, myself. . . .I have been researching breast cancer treatments and alternative health information all summer, for a very dear friend. They found the tumor in March, performed a radical mastectomy in April, four months of chemo. . . and my friend is doing extremely well. She was back to "normal activity" by mid-August, and she goes in for the permanent implant later this month.

Over the months, I have exhausted the Internet and my friends in the medical field, asking questions about the current options. . .and finding quite a few interesting web sites.

I do hope that your biopsy comes back clear. . . but if you'd like some one to chat with about the medical jargon. . .and someone to confide in. . .I'm your girl. (There were six of us. . .in the support group for my friend. . . we all shaved our heads when the chemo was in full effect. It seemed to do us all some good.)

The best advise she was given was to "be active in you recovery", it's the only way to win the fight!

Good Luck, and contact me if you like racheljm@juno.com.

Take Care of You-

Janeva

Hey thanks for the info. I will know more after my next apt with the specialist. I am having a good week energy wise and am feeling ok. I shall record your email and keep it handy, I may be struggling in the future. I hope your friend continues to do well. And I'm keeping my hopes up for me too. I am staying positive. Although you know... I have a McDonalds attitude sometimes I want it right now and my way oops possibly that was BurgerKing. :D

Nov 4th was the first opening I could get so I go in on that day. Quite frankly I don't know what to expect that day. But I'm prepared mentally.

This weeks been really good for me. Last week was not so good.

We're going riding for a ride or two this weekend. Good distraction.

Where are you? Weather here is getting crappy.
Logs - eh, the bane of many a rider. But watching those with skill, float like buttah, sting like a bee . . .
I like clinics. Should be more.

I wonder if I asked my LBS to set one up if they would or if they would know how. Are there curridulum's out there? They have some terrific riders. I wonder if it would be a true learning situation or a show off situation?

I finally followed a friends advice and checked out this forum. Of course slow work time is a part of it to. Anyway, I popped in on your thread and was wondering how things were going. I've know a bunch of folks that have battled with the scourge and have succeeded! I work as a cancer research assistant for a surgeon. All I know is that a positive attitude, eating right, staying hydrated, rested (yeah that's a hard one) and I feel exercise helps. Anything to help boost your own body in fighting back. Hope things went well. :)

I'm home recuperating for 2 weeks now. No riding for at least 2 months, believe me at this time that seems like a mighty fine idea. I have not heard on the lab reports yet. This hurts more than endoing into lava rock. It was kind of funny as they were putting me under one nurse looked at my leg and said what surgeon worked on your leg the very last thing I remember saying was - I wrecked my bike into a lava field.

Glad you're on the way to recovery. :) Stretch as much as your body will allow. A little at a time. The hardest thing my Grandmother had dealing with is the loss of range of motion. She was 65 for her first surgery and 80 for her second. She wasn't 'fit' before hand, so I believe that made it a bit harder. You were fit. Fit people bounce back quicker. My Gram's still trouping along, working part time and enjoying life. She's 88.

Lava rocks? Where were you riding? The worst wipe out I did was over a 1 1/2" pile of dirt. Caught almost 3' of air! I can fly, but my landings suck! Dirt does not taste good.

Keep your spirits up. There isn't any good riding outside right now anyway. Monday they had forcast 47 and sunny for saturday. They neglected to say we would get a heavy snow storm Thursday and now another one for Saturday! I'm ready to move south.

Best wishes!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree - if you're going to have a riding slump, now is the time to do it! Here in PA, can kind of snowboard, can kind of ride, but neither is the best. Eck.

Glad to hear you're on you way. You sound spirited, that's great. Good luck!!

Yes you are right it is pouring out there now. The only riding I would probably be doing now would be riding to work anyway.

We do a lot of riding in Central Oregon out of Sisters and Bend area. Mountains of lava there along with miles and miles of trails.

I fly really well also but my landings leave a lot to be desired. I've seen bikes endo and people just walk out of them. Well crumpling is more my style after plenty of air time.

I have now given up and have elbow and knee with shin armor now.

Sounds neat. Someday I may get out of New England to ride elsewhere. I would really like to ride over the continental divide the first time I head out west. But no money or time for the time being. Maybe by the time my son is big enough to handle, (and drop me) the big trails.

I also gave up flying. I'll be content to watch the guys fly for now. There were 5 events that I wanted to do this summer. I managed to recoup enough to do 4. 1 was a nearbye EFTA race. A race I didn't have to drive 2 1/2 hrs +/- to. The trails are rooty and most people don't like them, but for some reason I love 'em. I managed to place 2nd without a warm up. Dumb I know, but hell, I wasn't even sure I would finish the race. My arm, where I tried to rip it off of my body on my 'landing', was not real happy with me. It was only 1 month after I wiped out and my hand was still periodically numb.

The other events were: a 5 man team for a 24hr mtb race at the base of Mt Washington, we placed 11th this year. We were just doing it, not trying to win. If the guys had wanted to win, they would have ridden without me.

The VT 50 mtb race. My goal was to finish and come in before 8 hrs. I was intimidated by the miles. I placed 5th and my time was 8hrs 1min! I vow to do it next year and try a little on the up hills. I had only ridden that kind of mileage once before. That was the previous Sunday on my Roadie!

The last was my first century. Goals that I didn't want to give up on because I was trying to show off. My arm is not 100% but it doesn't hurt when I ride. :)

We are 7 days away from the shortest day of the year. It's all downhill from here! Ummm, watch out for that tree!!!! :D

Wow you do a lot of events! I entered one mount bike event last year it was suppose to be 40 miles but it was 47. It took me 6 hours and 6 minutes. Of those that did finish I was next to last. But my goal was to finish I felt real good about that. I just ride mountain trails mostly. Divscotty

Finishing is what it's all about! I've raced with a cold and swore I would drop out of the race, but for some reason I just had to finish. Must be the excitement of passing the roadies on the downhills. :D hehehe
