Hey Pittsburghers,
I'm sure most of you already know about the ongoing access issues in Hartwood, but here's my latest. My wife was walking/running there this morning, and was approached by a happy smiley woman who asked her to sign her petition to have off road bicyclists banned from Hartwood. My wife (who is not a biker) informed the woman that her husband rides bikes, pays taxes to the county, and has as much right to the park as anyone. Said smiley woman stomped off in a huff, but my wife did note that there were a lot of signatures on the petition. Just wanted to let everyone know that there are still groups working against us, so beware and be on your best behavior. I'd also bet that those that signed have never done any trail maintenance or assisted with the mapping activities that the county is working on.

Hmm... I wonder if that group is responsible for defacing all the IMBA signs, too.

Ensure that written, even if emailed, complaints to the local rangers/whatnot are submitted regarding the defacement and valdalism of trail signs, asap. IF you can take digipics and attach them to email, all the better. Keep it nice, but keep it concerned.

Since you now know the whackos are getting restless, quickly schedule a trail maintenance day with the Rangers, too. Doesn't have to be a big project, but nice and close to the trailhead would be nice.
