ok Been thinking about building a 29 inch SS. looking around I've noticed a serious lack of 29 inch rims and tires. I need a little shove in the right direction. maybe some company names or websites. I know Kenda makes a 29 version of the Klaw but thats about all Ive found.

Rims can be pretty much anything 700c using a 32h 3 cross build. Road, cross, it doesn't matter. Mavic MA3's for example would do the job and there folks out there riding Ksyriums.

For tires, WTB has the most options, there's a Bontrager, Kenda as you mentioned, and IRC makes a 29" Mythos. Most of those are listed at speedgoat.com. One thing though, none are more than 2.1".

Don't forget about 700c tandem and touring rims. I'm not sure how many holes they're typically drilled but 36 shouldn't be a problem.

Mavic also makes a 700c disc wheelset called the Speed City. It's a cassette wheel so not really applicable to SS unless you use spacers. And a wad of cash.

Remember that wider rims will help cut down on pinch flats.

I'm gonna need one when the wife sues for divorce upon finding out my lust for a 29" SS build. Then rattlecan shows us the paulcomp site?

Are washing machine boxes better homes than holes in the ground?

One of my favourite shop stories:

A guy is buying a $700 mountain bike. He adds some accessories and whatnot. At the checkout the total comes to $1100. The girlfriend has a hissy fit: "$1100 FOR A BICYCLE...." But before she can even get started he says:

"Don't even start! You just spent that much on a coffee table!"

remember-

the correct answer to "how many bikes do you need?" is ALWAYS:

ONE MORE.

well, see, you can always increase the square footage of a hole in the ground to accomidate that one more bike ;)

I think I'm gonna go with the alex adventurer rims. 32 or 36 hole I haven't made up my mind but I'm leaning toward 32. The hubs will be white ind. eno.

I went with Salsa Delgados on XT. 32h 3 cross. I bought Bonty Jones tires, although I'm having second thoughts about them. I keep hearing the words "thin" and "tear" in reference to the sidewalls. Guess I'll have to start carrying booting material in the camel back......

I have been looking into Kenda Klaw , WTB motoraptor or conti vapors. Not sure which yet altough the conti's are super heavy and I'm trying to keep the bike relatively light.

I'm not sure the vapors have a whole lot of volume either. Part of my motivation towards the Bontys was weight, but if I'm gonna rip out sidewalls its not worth it. Time will tell. There's a lot of folks who swear by Nanos, especially on the back, which is weird because they're just not that versatile a 26" tire. Mutanos are a front favorite it seems while the Klaws look like a good all round tire with a nod towards mud.

Will you run tubes?

My kingdom for a 2.4.....

Yeah I will most likely run tubes. I'm not totally sold on tubeless yet. Besides running tubless will really limit you when it comes to rims and tires.
