Sue is no doubt exhausted and peaked out. Bummer.

Regarding the link,
I think that West Virginians are known as mountaineers, or maybe hillbillies, not rednecks! "Redneck" just seems to be the wrong word, especially for a WV transplant (Is she from Delaware?), world class mountain biker.

Maybe its just me. Yee Ha

Sorry man, the words came directly from her mouth.

I wouldn't have written it otherwise.

I guess it was just me. Ironic that she used 'Redneck' over 'Mountaineer' considering the WV Tourism department sponsored her for a while, or maybe still does.

Oh well, glad that Dirt Rag reported the facts as they were presented.

I was introduced to Sue many years ago while snowboarding at Timberline in West Virgina. I re-met her the following summer after the 1995 24 Hours of Canaan. Over the years we have gotten to be friends and stayed in touch via e-mail. Regardless of the "Red Neck " in her, from day one Sue has been one of the most laid back, nicest people I have ever met. I'm sure it is her sense of humor, that led to the Redneck remark and she ment no harm by it. In her own words " It has been a long way from the 24 hour race in '93 when the boys wouldn't let me ride at night because I was too much a liability". Sue has indeed come a long way. She rode hard, and I hope (pending Mary's appeal) that she goes all the way to the Medal Stand in Athens. GO SUE!

I met Sue at Interbike, but not at the show. Maurice scooped me up in the van following Outdoor Demo and there were two strangers (with lots of Trek stuff) in the back with us (we were all drinking, I'm not sure if they were). Anyhow, the woman started chiding me by saying "GUERRERO" repeatedly in a pseudo-Spanish accent. I thought, "Well, I don't know who you are but at least you can pronounce my name, so that's good." Turns out that was Sue and Travis. Cool, eh?

I first met Sue when she came up for the Punk Bike Enduro a few years ago... I think I was still an intern here at the Dirt Rag at that point, so we're talking 5-6 years ago... I've run into her a few times since and she's always been quite the character.

I'll be watching the women's Olympic mountain bike competition closely this year. I have no diea what Sue's realistic chances of doing well are, but I'm gunning for her.

...and about that van ride Jeff mentioned. I'm pretty sure Sue was having a beer in the back, but Travis was not.
