Hi everyone! This is my first post on this forum. I really really want to start racing and I was wondering if anyone could shed some insight on me (as a beginner) Any comments, suggestions, anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. I don't know a thing about racing I just didn't want you to go without a welcome.

I'm sorta new to biking as well..I did my first race last weekend...was kinda hoping for rain so I didn't have to go..but once I got there I was glad to be there...I ride with a group of bikers that are far better than myself..so I do a lot of watching how they ride which MAYBE will make me a better rider...It's relaxing to me...kinda my time to let my mind wonder...just find a race and sign up and go..you'll have an awesome time...

Sleep well and eat well the few days before the race. Check your bike over before the night before. Stay hydrated. Try to eat breakfast. Don't panic when someone trys to pass you, it's their job to pass, not yours to let them. Most important of all, relax, have fun. That's why we ride in the first place.
Good luck!

I think Free Spirit said it well. I usually do the same thing. I usually pack the truck with everything the night before. Get a good nights sleep. Eat a light breakfast, make sure I'm drinking alot so i stay hydrated. Then about 30 min before the race I pop a gel. And I tape a couple gels to the bike so I can just rip em off while I'm riding. The big thing is make sure your bike is working properly. There's nothing worse than having shifting/mechanical issues in a race. I think the biggest thing for me is getting through the first 15-20 minutes of having to go like hell to get away from the pack. Once I get past that I just try and keep a good pace and pass when I have a good opportunity.
