I thought I'd pass along the word about this women's adventure race coming to Ohio in October, for those dirt divas looking to expand their repertoire:
The Buff Betty
Women's Adventure Race
October 24, 2004
9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Paint Creek State Park
Bainbridge, Ohio
The Buff Betty is a 6 hour challenge open only to women . . . solos or teams of up to four . . . it doesn't matter as long as you have two X chromosomes :D. No matter what your skill or experience level, this is the race for you. It will include moderate to easy singletrack mountain biking, fla****er paddling on the very scenic Paint Creek reservoir, navigating with map and compass through the fall colors of the surrounding forest, and an exciting rappel off Harmony Wall.
We're expecting a good mix of both experienced and novice racers, and hope participants will be motivated to return home and spread the word to other women about the great sport of adventure racing. To help that along, we're throwing in all of these great "extras":
Free navigation clinic on Saturday
Free rappelling instruction on Saturday
Free camping Friday & Saturday nights
Free Saturday evening meal, after the clinics
And a great post-race feast with vegetarian treats
All that for only $60 per person (through 9/24/04)!! Boat rentals (including paddle & PFD) are available for just $25 per boat (max. 3 women per boat).
Free online registration through active.com (http://www.active.com)
