I'm thinking of getting rid of my Sugar and going with a Fisher 29" hardtail. Am I going to regret this? Any thoughts on the 05 Fisher 29"?

I just got a SS 29er and love it. I really can't find anything wrong with it at all. It rolls so smoothly and at times feels almost like a full susser on rough stuff. Not sure that I'd make it my only bike, but I definitely love the way it rides.

Check out the Surly Karate Monkey (103) and Fisher 2004 292 (107) articles in Dirt Rag. They'll tell you everything this rider has figured out about that question.

2nd Full Week On My Ss Karate Monkey, I Don't Think You Can Go Wrong With 29" Wheels. Acceleration Is Slightly Slower, But Once You're Up To Speed You Can Just Roll On...while Your At It Go Fully Rigid And Ss. Arise From Your Geared Suspension And Live! :)

 I have been riding my 29er KM SS 3,500 miles so far, it is the best trail bike I have ever had, I only have one more 26" bike left and it will go soon.

I've been riding a Karate Monkey for a while, now, and absolutely love it! It's the best riding bike I've ever owned.
:)
i rode a sugar for 2 years, and i loved it. but i sold it for a fisher mt. tam 29. i was nervous about the change. but i absolutely love it. my favorite change is increased speed. i can haul ass on this bike, and im not a super-strong rider. also, i dont miss the suspension. the bigger wheels seem to absorb more shock.
objectively speeking, 26" wheels seem arbitrarily small. now that ive ridden 29 for a while, 26s look tiny and inefficient.
so anyways, sugar is a fantastic ride, but i am much happier with my mt. tam.

Of Course you could do what I do, I own a 292 and 2 Supercals. For real rough technical stuff I've got the full suspension, and when light weight is needed I've got that too.
I've heard a rumor that the American Maverick ML-7 bike will be available as a 29er and that perhaps Gary Fisher will license the design.

It's a mistake to not go 29. I am not sorry that I did and I do not miss my 26" bikes one bit. I dumped my small wheeled bikes for a pair of 29ers - a GF Supercal29 and a GF Sugar 292. If you still want the Sugar consider a 292...a nice ride.
