View Full Version : 29" tires
I am looking for a 29" tire wider than 2.1. Does anybody know of any? I do know the Bontrager Jones ACX is 2.2, but are there any others?

I am running 2.1 motoraptors and that is the smallest tires I have had since my first bike. They feel and measure though like a 2.25 or 2.3. Havent been running super low pressure with them yet so can't say about pinch flat resistance, but the traction is amazing with them. Although i'd love to see some 2.3's out there so we have options i'm not sure I would need them.

I'm running the WTB 2.1 Moto Raptor, as well. They sure don't look or act like a 2.1 tire. Definitely seem/look/feel larger.

http://www.dirtragmag.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4731 See this link if you want to see a big tire! Ritchey's 26" 2.35 was a hige tire. Imagine what it would do for 29"! Perfect match for that Rigid fork or Monkey
Word! That tire will be perfect. Any news on when they will be avalible?

Probably not in 05. They've gotta make the mold, test proto's and such, then market them to wholesalers/consumers, THEN they can put them on market. I'd say late season '05 if we're lucky, '06 for sure.

WTB is supposed to soon announce a XC Wolf tire in 29x2.3, weight in the 800's. Also a 28mm rim to match.

I'd pay good money for some Kenda Karma's, if they hadn't unplugged that project long ago. We need a 2.1-2.3" RACE TIRE so bad! My 26" buddies keep outrolling me on smooth trails :-(
I am on WTB MotoRaptor 2.1. I have always been a Ritchey fan however, looking forward to the new tires. I know in some areas wider is better but I have ridden narrower tires in everything from Chequamegon mud Minnesota River Bottom sand to Black Hills razor sharp slate. The thinner tires to me just feel like a cutlass while the wider ones feel like a heavy broadsword!

Hey watch out for the Kenda tires. Although I run Kendas, they dont measure very accurately. I have Talked to Wannamaker about this and he said that Kenda decreased the actual size of their tires while keeping the advertised size the same. So a tire that is labeled 2.1 may well measure only a 1.85. This was done in response to the Big box bike companies needing cheaper tires for the junk they pedal. The only Kendas that I amaware of that measure accuratly are those with Tomacs name on them.John wouldnt sign with Kenda unless the measurements were true.

The existing Kenda XT Klaws 2.1" have actually become wider since their debut. They are true 2.1's now.
I wonder cherish an undersized 2.2" Karma like a little sister.
