Got a question.
I got what looks like a real GOOOEEY Muddy cyclocross race this weekend. What kind of lube would yinz recommend for the chain.
Would a grease be better?
Think nasty red clay and stinky black mud .. Yuummm Yuuummm
Thanks

I've been riding in some nasty stuff lately and decided to try something new....
I bought a quart of automotive rear oil. It's heavier weight than motor oil. It's sticky as all hell when it comes to staying on the chain but it sheds grime like nothing else I've used. And the whole quart cost $2, as opposed to $4-$7 for a small 3oz bottle of Pedro's or similar type lube.
I'm going to try a high quality synthetic next -- like Mobil 1 or something along those lines.

HMMM, Interesting ,
But oh God does that stuff stink...
I'm goin' down to get a fender today. Its rained for 12 outta 17 days this month. The freakin' cat doesn't even want out any more.
I was thinking of a mid weight grease.over top a lighter lube.

I bought some stuff at a bike race called Psyco Lube. I think it works great. I really like it so far. I have been in a lot of conditions except serious mud.

"I love the smell of Tri-Flow in the morning...Smells Like Victory!"
There is no other lube as far as I am concerned.

I tried
Triflow underneath Finish line Teflon grease. I heated the grease up on the radiator until it was very easy to spread and then slathered it on the chain.
It worked very well and was easy to get off afterwards with some citrus degreaser.

Try some spray on Pan. Nothing sticks to that stuff!!!

DUHH,
Why didn't I think of that?
It saves my mom's cooking all the time. If it can stand up to a batch of burnt on cinnamon rolls then surely it will repel all manner of trail nasties.
Thanks.
