Has anybody used a 7 Speed on a 29" yet? More so, Do they even make 7 speed hubs anymore or is 9 the new standard?

Phil Wood still makes a 7 speed hub, saw one on the Rivendell site. Other than that, 7 speeds are generally low end. I haven't tried 7 speed on a 29'er, but on mtb's a 7 speed rides just like an 8 speed except there's one less gear. Of course being 7 speed, I always felt luckier when riding. With 8 speed I have to pack a rabbit's foot to get the same feeling. If I forget the rabbit's foot, I have to go run a rabbit over and then I don't bother cutting off the foot, I just tie the disgusting thing to my handlebars. The way everyone get's out of my way makes me feel real lucky. Of Course chicks just don't dig it. Screw it, I'm going back to 7 speed.

Snap these up, just for the hubs. I've got two sets of ca. 1990 7sp DX hubs, both still running strong.

I have a couple old wheelsets with those DX hubs. Cant kill em. Much of the DX stuff was actually lighter than XT back then. I have one wheelset with 7spd and a wacky cogset I built. Been hanging in the rafters for a while let me think. 12/14/15/22/28/35? looks crazy, worked well in Minnesota Bluff riding! Also ran a 24/34/46 front until the Avid adaptor came out then went to a 22 granny. Guys hate, make that cant ride uphill behind me. I was practically trackstanding!
