I am interested in a 29er but the GF paragons are hard to get. I know the karate monkey is out there too. what else is there? I am in the $1300 price area.

Surly's Karate Monkey can easily be built for that much.

Voodoo
Airborne
Waltworks
Wily
Vicious

Quite a few makers of 29ers out there, but not many offer complete bikes. :(

Check into IRO. The Mia is a 26" but I think there may be a 29" version coming out...or the current frame can fit 29"..not sure but its worth a look, cause their cheap!

I own a Mia. Its a disc specific frame for both 26" and 29" wheels. I've got 26"ers in there right now, but there's definately the clearance for big 29ers. And you're not gonna break that frame. Its got tubing sizes I'd expect on an aluminum frame, but its steel! Nice job of the head tube too. BIG BEEFY dropouts, again, the size I'd expect on an alu frame.

Dont know about the weight, and I dont care, but it feels quite light, stiff, and responsive. Blows away my old hardrock frame at least.

If anyone's hard on their bikes, its me, and even the paint job is holding up great...I'd highly recommend a Mia. Tony emailed me back when I asked about 29" and he said they'll probably add on a 29" wheel option for the complete bike soon.

The only downside I'd noticed, is you're getting a higher bottom bracket shell. Though, I consider this a bonus, not a downside.

I highly recommend that Mia. I just took it on a long 6 hour ride on the rocky canadian shield, and oh...I'm in love. That geometry is great, fits me like a glove!
