I'm looking to put a suspension fork on my Karate Monkey and was wondering if anyone out there has any thoughts on the Windwood or Marzocchi offerings?
The Rock Shox Reba and White Bros are sorta out of the question as I don't plan on using the fork all of the time and don't want to invest that much change into a fork. Besides, I love the ride with the rigid fork. Just need to soften it up for certain situations (24 hour racing and going out West for the big stuff). Any input is greatly appreciated :)

We reviewed the Winwood 29er fork in Dirt Rag #112.
General idea? Stay away from it.

marzocchi makes a 29" version of their MX fork. I think I'll go that way.

Keep your eyes on ebay or the mtbr classifieds for a WB CX-1. Nice stiff and light fork, they go for about $200.

I have a 29 inch Marzocchi I'm trying to sell. Haven't gotten around to putting it on Ebay. It's a 2003 fork off of a Gary Fisher. The fork has very little riding on it and I just have it laying around. It's not the MX version, it the one that's better than that. So if that's what you're looking for, I'd like $175 and shipping for it. Let me know if you'd like pictures or anything, I really have no use for it anymore.

I was wondering if you still have your 29 inch Marzocchi fork for sale? If so could you email me the details of it such as year, model, condition, color etc. Also how much do you think it would cost to ship. Thanks

I think going for a light fork on a 29er can lead to catastrophe. The added length of the stanchions makes the fork inherrently week to begin with so beefing them up is a requirement to keep the rigidity of the ride, and to prevent sacraficing safety. If you're looking to save some money, however, take a look for a Marzocchi Marathon on E-Bay. Those go for around $200 or so.

I"ve had a "light" CX-1 on my Hunter 29" for over 4 years w/o a hitch. I'm no light wieght myself at over 210. I started out damned close to 240 though. I've not had any flex issues either for/aft or torsion. One ride on the Noodly Marz offerings though swore me off them. There is substantial flextion on the marz when you grab some front brake. Something I hardly get with my WB 'light' fork. I just rebuilt this fork, and everything looks new inside. For such a reputedly delicate system, I'm surprised. If anyone is looking to pick up a CX-1, I'd say go for it.
