View Full Version : Have love, will travel.
Love of winter rides through the city at night. Cruising through point state park, alongside the three rivers, South Side, North Side, Polish Hill, Bloomfield, Strip District. Pittsburgh during winter is amazing. Both beautiful and ugly at the same time, when I can't hit the trails, I'll gladly go for a romp through town. For those who give up on their bikes in mid to early November, you're realy missing out. You can have Southern California and the flippin' tropics, I'm riding the 'burgh.

Sweet Dude! I spent all wensday riding some fresh snow on my homemade studded tires. I love snow riding, this morning was fun on my snow commute. Why stop riding because of weather? your bike is a all year ride!

Word. Winter time is when bikers bike.
You can't beat the clarity of those cold evenings; after the initial shock of the cold has gone through you and you start to realize "Yeah. It's cold. That felt good." Somehow city lights look prettier in the cold, even when the dirty snow is piled up on the curbs to make everything look shit-on.
My ride last night was South down River Road through the residential part of West Saint Paul, then over the Mississippi into South Minneapolis on Menominee. Eventually that divided 4-lane gives way to narrow roads that wind up the hills that come before the lakes, then down into Lake Harriet, over to Lake Calhoun and you're winding through a busy night in Uptown. North on Lyndale until the complicated mess of highways signals you've made it Downtown, where you shoot traffic until your legs get tired. Grumpy's bar for a burger and a Jimmy Page, then back across the river into Northeast to settle in for the night.

Rode to a friends apt in the City, had beer, went street riding until about 4:00am, slept a few hours, rinsed, and repeated. It was good.

Right on, Max.
We usually ride along the river, and pick a hill to climb if we feel like it. Etna, Millvale, Troy Hill, maybe assault the steps around the stadiums, Northside up to Riverview Park, down woods Run to the jail, over to McKees Rocks, up Steuben St, Mt Washington, Southside, Homestead, Squirrel Hill, Oakland, the Zoo and back. Plenty of variation available! Hills? Take 'em or leave 'em? Traffic? Plenty of back alleys.
If you cross all three river, it's a three rivers loop.
