Tecate is the beer of choice in most NYC kitchens (i.e. Mexican help). I prefer Negra Modelo when it calls for a shift drink.
was Tres Equis. The only place I've ever seen in was in Mexico. Of the rest that I've tried, I liked Negro Modelo and Pacifico.
Generally speaking, the pale ales from Mexico are a little bit too light for my tastes. I'm sure there's better ones out there but I haven't seen them as yet.

Yes, Bohemia is a mexican beer, actually, is my favorite post ride beer, but keep tasting them all, thereīs this brand casta, and they make rubia, bruna, and morena, as in blonde brunette and dark, worth tasting them....

yeah, everybody loves 3x 'cause it builds strong wheels. I've never heard of that, but I wonder if that is anything like dos equis, which I don't think is bad either (in fact, it's kinda good). But during critical mass, the non-cheap beer I carried for good friends (it lasted about 10 min) was tecate, which gave a definately welcome break from the old style tall boys (hey, it was 3.50 for six of 'em!)

Made by the same brewer. It's a pale ale style while Dos Equis is an amber. Like I said ... I've only seen it in Mexico.

Yeah, I see dos equis all over this part of the midwest. But 3x? If you find it, send it to:

Tecate is okay.
Corona sucks.
Dos Equis isn't really mexican, but it tastes good, especially the green bottle.
Negro Modelo es muy excellente.

Tres Equis is a fun beer, made for drinkers. It comes in stubbies, with an inset on the bottom of each bottle that fits the twist-off caps. You set your empty on top of a fresh one, twist and go. I also only seen it south of the border, but it's not made by the same brewery company as Dos Equis, anymore. Similarly, Tequila Orendain has finger grips molded into the sides of the bottles.
Bohemia and Noche Buena are made by the same company as Dos Equis lagers and are both excellent in my view, as is Negra Modelo.
Tecate, Sol, Chihuahua and Pacifica and Corona are all cheap beers with poor reps inside Mexico, unless you're selling to touristas. And with good reason: the clear bottled beers go bad very quickly. Ice 'em or squeeze citrus in to hide it.

Thankx for the confirmation ... I was beginning to think that I'd imagined the whole experience. Its been a looooooooooooooong time since I've had the Tres Equis. :D

Way down the south in Mexican sates of La peninsula de Yucatan, era some more beers that aren't well known in the rest of the cuontry like Montejo, Leon, Victoria, and they're proud of it, Victoria ads show a pair of "gringos" doing all kind stupid stunts like digging a tunnel (narco style) to pass a case of beer to your side of the border and the slogan goes something like " it's so good you can get it anywhere else " and XXX isn't the only beer that comes with a twist off stubby, carta blanca does the sam and dark corona some times people call coronas in this bottles " huevos de toro" or bull ball, cuase of the size and shape, and "noche buena", itīs made only in chrismas time as a special production beer the names traslates to holy nigth, "pacifico" it's a very popular beer in Sinaloa, one of the norther states and comes in a dark tall neck not clear, but I'm happy to see that you all know mexico, or at least mexican beers...

Too funny! Up here in the Pacific Northwest, we have a beer called Kokanee that is brewed in British Columbia, Canada. They had a very similar ad campaign. Something along the lines of you have to be a resident of British Columbia (and be able to prove it) before the shop owners would let you buy any Kokanee. Didn't want the "secret" to get out to the residents "south of the border".
Thankx for the laugh! Now ... if only I could figure out a way to get my hands on some of that good brew down Mexico way. :p

Another note, cerveza XX Lager and XX Ambar, both are mexican beers. beloning to cerveceria Cuahutemoc Moctezuma (more mexican than that, it can't be) wich makes beers in Mexico since circa 1890 saddly in Mexico 2 big companies have the monopoly of beers cerveceria modelo wich makes aprox. 7 or so brands and Cuahutemoc Moctezuma that makes similar amount of brands, there are other breweries like casta and cosaco, but those are very limited...

What about Carta Blanca? When I was a kid in the early 70s my family and I toured Mexico for 3 months in a VW camper. My mother insisted on going to the non tourists places. pretty cool eh? Anyways, I remember the beer of choice was Carta Blanca, (kids do notice those things). Every bottle had an indentation on the bottom the same shape as a bottle cap. This was used to twist off the cap of your next bottle. Also pretty cool eh?

Carta Blanca is brewed bi Cuahutemoc Moctezuma, wich belongs to "femsa" a company that distributes Coca cola among other things, any way, Carta Blanca is still one of the most consumed beers in Mexico...
