My bike is a '99' Bontrager Privateer S frame, with a rasta colored paint scheme. I have XTR cranks, derrailleurs, and shifters. An XT cassette (you can't get an XTR in 11-34) Thompson Elite seatpost and stem, Easton Monkeylite SL handlebar, Marzocchi X-Fly 80 fork, Chris King Race lite Wheels, Continental Survival Pro tires, I also have the most fantastic finishing touches; Salsa Pepper-Jack grips Green with Yellow Peppers, and Of course an official Dirt Rag saddle, Wich also has a bontrager symbol on it (it is based on the Bontrager Race-lite saddle)
It is sooooo hot!

My bike is a '94 Bontrager Race. Made in Santa Cruz. It has 1st generation XTR derailleurs, controls, and 11-30 cassette. It has the first model Avid Tri-align brakes. A Ritchey Compact Logic crank. A WTB wheelset (New Paradigm hubs, Powerbeam rims) A WTB SST98 saddle sitting on a TI Cycles (Seattle builder) Ti seatpost. RockShox Judy SL from when that meant the best. Salsa stem. Ti Bontrager bar. Various Ti nuts and bolts. It rides single track like a dream. I think mine is the best.

Nothing quite like a good, old fashioned pissing contest...
Does spec really matter on bikes? And if so, does that mean that my Mafac tandem canti's on my cross bike make me cooler?

I've been dabbling in some of my own home bike repair/maintenance.
I have a DS and a friend's old hard tail. I've been using the hard tail for "road riding". I put some slicks on it and a cyclocomputer. I ride it on rail trails and the like.
I love my DS and I use it for all my off-road needs. But I'm discovering that less can be better. With my DS, I have to worry about making sure all the suspension has all the air it should have, the tubeless tires, etc. I have to make sure all the pivots are secure and lubed, etc.
But with this old hard tail, things seem a bit simpler. First off it is a 7-speed. It seems to shift a bit better. Even with older SRAM shifters. It has cantilever brakes. Jeez, I can actually work on these. Unlike my hydraulic disc brakes on my DS which I have no idea!
Anyway, I guess my point is that even if the lastest and greatest is cool to ride, the oldest and simplest can be the easiest to maintain.

I don't think this is a pissing contest. Just blissed out bragging about our bikes. Bontragers rule all!!

No bike is the better compared to anybody's else, your bike can only be the best for you. Comparing your bike to another's only leads to less riding or riding bitter. I am glad I stopped doing that a few years back. Regardless, I agree Bonti's are super cool.

NO way dude... mine is the best.
Upgraded 1976 Schwinn Sportabout. What do I mean upgraded? Only one gear, fixed to a track cog, motorcycle chain, and an emergency brake up front rigged to a Paul Love lever, inverted. New tires make it scream, and the black bar tape tops it all off.
My neighbor won it at the Moose Lodge back in '76 and it's been sitting in his garage since... until he gave it to me as the ultimate commuter. Too bad Moe bogarted the rack.
Yeah!

You are all so pitifully mistaken. When it is natural fact that my Azonic DS-1 is the best bike ever.
On a serious note, it is the least expensive frame I have ever owned and if I broke it today, I'd buy another one tomarrow. It's stiff, short and stout with BMX like geometry and cost a third of what I paid for a USELESS Gt LTS back in the day. Tricked all the way out with the best high end parts from ten other bikes and currently getting a new back wheel. (My wife told me to stop side kicking litter, but I wouldn't listen...)

Yes, Bontragers were nice rides. I had two back in the day. I wish they still made those. Are you readin' this, Keith?
