Man, this morning as I rode the Trek970 in I couldn't help but think of spring. The muddy stretch between the guardrails along Route 8 conjured visions of Endless Valley (one of the Punk Bike trails). The creek below Saxonburg ran high as the ice and snow shrunk back from the roadside. Rain drizzled so softly I only noticed it on the downhills.

As I rounded the last bend before Dirt Rag, felt a droplet of sweat fall from my nose and crested the final hill, I thought how nice it will be in a few months to be drenched in early morning sweat from the heat and not layers of clothing.

Oh, and it gets better. The ride home is nearly all downhill.

Over here in Nort west Wisconsin we just can't seem to shake the damn winter. There were days where the snow was almost all gone, and temps were soaring up to the forties. Then, wham! Back down to the single digits. This week is looking the same way... high thirties tomorrow and friday, then back to the twenties. It's a pain, because I want to be riding around in sandles, cut-offs, and my cleanest dirty T-shirt. No worries, though, because at the end of next week, we will have us a convoy going from UW-Stout up here to Moab for a week. Warm weather and riding, which since I don't have a Jamis frame to ride on at this point, will be done on the 1x1 for me. I can't wait.... Just can't wait....

Spring has sprung here. Everything smells different, it's particularly noticeable first thing in the morning and at dusk. Very nice.

Yeah, I can just start to FEEL the effects of the sun's increasing daily appearance...
fourty degrees and drizzle,
old Sol still has a ways to go.
but welcome back, old friend.
I promise to stay off of the trails
until you've had a chance to complete your mission.
I'll pedal the roads for now,
fenders keeping me sane.

Today was a slushy dirty salt ride in the lower 20's but tomorrow the weather is supposed to be near 60. I think winter had it's last day around here. I can't wait till I can ware shorts and don't have to tie down my right pant leg. I love Dirt Rag, The fact that you guys actually post on the board is great to see. I look up to you guys and then to be able to communicate with you is very cool.

Yeah, its coming, winter still shows its ugly head regurally, but the streams of melted snow crossing the roads is a strong reminder of the seasons change, that and the strong taste of salt and i cross these flying down the road on my mtb, the tire spray i eat since i have yet to get fenders on my bike;) But like intense said, i love dirtrag as well, especially that you guys actually post on the forum, it really takes you away from the 'mindless consumer' feeling and brings you to feeling like you are a part of something. All of you guys kickass and it totally rocks that you guys bike to work! long live dirt rag and long live the ride.

Ahhh, what would my coldest-winter-on-record be without all of you to converse with. I too appreciate having actual staff input.

Here, weather is a harsh mistress. On Saturday it was almost 50 degrees in the afternoon as I rode to my night job. During the 4 hours I was inside the temperature dropped almost 50 DEGREES!!! I am not kidding! When I biked home it was below 0, there was 3 inches of snow on the ground and a windchill advisory. My girlfriend called to see if I wanted her to pick me and the bike up. I told her thanks, but I got myself into this and I'll get myself home through it.

Michigan is a teasing bitch.
