Oooh, we've got so many!
Charles Wells - Bombardier
Timothy taylor - Landlord
Masham black sheep breweries - Black Sheep (duh!)
Bishops finger ( or nun's delight, as we call it!)
We have loads of independent breweries that produce everything, from your 'lager' style pale ales, to the real dark , heavy '80 shilling' type stuff.
If anyone's willing to open their taste buds, i'll ship them a bottle, & you can tell us all what you think.
NOTE!
I'm not doing it for ALL you thirsty buggers! you'll bankrupt me!

Hmmm, I seem to remember this topic from another thread, but since we're sharing...
Red Hook ESB. Like Bass, but more hops.
Thirsty Dog Breweries Russian imperial Stout. Nine percent alcohol. A big ol' bottle of whoop ass.
Dogfish Head Breweries 60 Minute IPA. Damn, that stuff is hoppy, even for an IPA.
And sometimes, good ol' Jim Beam. That stuff likes me 'way too much. but sometimes I'll tear into in.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is to American Pale Ale as Guinness is to Dry Irish Stout--a classic example. I think that was on my SAT......If not it should have been.
I hope that you meant by "best keg I ever drank" that you drank it with friends. If you single handedly consumed an entire keg of Imperial Stout I'd like to shake your hand. BTW, that's enough calories to circumnavigate the globe two or three times.

Another great subject.
The Hop Devil and Hop Wallop sound great. I'll have to try to find some.
I am presently enjoying a Samuel Smith's India Ale. One of my favorites I haven't had in a while. My wife ordered a Sam Smith's Winter Welcome at dinner last night and the thought got stuck in my mind. I had a Mendecino (sp?) Red Tail Pale. Not bad.
Favs:
Avery IPA (yeah, it is)
Hazed and Infused (Boulder Brewing I think)
Mojo IPA (much more hoppy, Boulder too.)
Breckenridge Brewery IPA
Boddington's
But, don't go out and buy the Breck IPA. It's not the same in the bottle. You have to go to the source (aka THE Breck brewery, aka "home"). The on premises batches are way better. The perfect summer day often ends there. I'LL MEET YOU THERE.
Also, had something called Dogfish over Christmas. That was pretty good too. Maryland I think.
At GABF '99 I had the killer IPA from Humbolt Brewing, Co. That was my favorite of the night. The parts of the night I remember anyway. The brew pub in the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs, CO does a nice IPA. I can't remember the name of the place, but I always try to hit it on the way through.

I am a fan of the local brews by Swee****er Brewery, (especially their IPA and Festive seasonal) and the now defunct Dogwood brewery. Georgia passed a law in July allowing beers over 6% alcohol, so I have been drowning myself in the massive supplies of previously unavailable Belgian and various other brews now filling the shelves of our better bottle shops and bars - one bar, Brickstore Pub, has an entire upstairs bar now devoted to Belgian beers and its beer menu is 6 pages of small font, almost all high gravity. A lot of work is ahead. On the cheap, I like the Steel Reserve (211) 6% and Southpaw. Of course my own homebrews as well - I have an IPA that is decent right now, and an Espresso Stout that I am damn proud of having produced in my own kitchen.

I have seen the proverbial light. British real ales are where it's at!
Like UKRider's list, i'd like to add:
Well's Banana Bread Beer
Copper Dragon
And over the summer I had this amazing honey and ginger beer that I can't remember the name of. It was heaven in a bottle.
At home, I like Pete's Wicked Summer Blonde, Magic Hat, Fat Tire, and Dale's Pale Ale, the only microbrew in a can (from Lyons, CO).

CNaut: I forgot about Dale's Pale! They are cool. Good (enough) beer in a can. Pretty Sweet. Plus they promo'd the ability to recycle their cans this summer by giving away a nice full-suspend to the first people to return something like 3,000 cans. Aluminum cans- Aluminum bike.
UKRider: Sign me up for the import. The beers I had in London (the 18 hours I was there) were great. I also recently read about Burton on Trent and the ales from there. Send me some, Puhleeese!

Onespeed...I remember hearing about that. I was delivering a Maverick from Boulder to Dale (well, Dale's wife, really) and he gave me a tour of the brewery. Anything by Weyerbacher is a favorite. Especially the Merry Monks Ale, Old Heathen, Blithering Idiot. I would have to say their best beer is Heresy. It is their imperial stout aged for six months in used bourbon cask. Awesome. I have Troegs Mad Elf last night. It rocked. And the Sierra Nevada Porter and Stout are always in the fridge. Oh yeah, Saranac. It (relativly) inexpensive, and GOOD.

I rember the first time I had a Skullsplitter. It was right after breakfast on the Chesapeke Bay. We were out fishing for Rockfish. I had no idea what was about to cross my lips. I think that stuff is about 9.5% ABV and it's a meal too. Good stuff though.

My long time favorite - Highland Gaelic Ale. I can't get it in New England. But my folks just brought up two six packs from N.C. I grew very accustomed to it when I lived in N.C. Other than that it's Harpoon or Newport Storm on a regular basis, or Bass.

What's up Tom?
I spent Christmas in Colorado Springs and a friend of mine is friends with one of the Brewers from Bristol Brewing Co. there. He brought over two growlers of their stout which was enhanced with cherries for the holidays. It was excellent, a bit hoppy for a stout, which was nice, and it was very smooth - not too carbonated. What's more is that we had run out of beer and only had wine. So he was kind of like Santa bringing us his homebrew. He kind of looked like Santa too, except he was a hippy.
When are you coming out here to visit. Ethan is coming in January.

I would love to come out there with Ethan, but I will be busy for the next few months for I just bought a house! It's a pretty sweet pad with 4 bedrooms, 2 car garage and 1.6 acres, most of which are woods. I have 1 week of vaca., but I already have it booked for the Keys. I am sure you will be back a little bit for the summer right? We can hit Hartwood and Frick in the Burgh and then come over my way to ride Vulture's Knob, and see what I built at Ray's Indoor Park. Afterwards, we can either hit a microbrewery or start a batch at my house. My first project in the new house is to build a custom bar with a kegerator and ample space to brew right there at the bar. I am sure it will be in place if you can make it over there this summer. I will have 2 weeks vaca. in 2006 and I will come out for a long weekend.

I had a dream last night and discovered my perfect beer. It was in a brown bottle and I couldn't make out the name (duh it was a dream) but I do remember that one of the letters was an "o" with two dots above it making it probably foreign. My guess is that I've had it before a long time ago and it may not even be the right beer. The important part was the taste. It was a dark beer with a nutty taste and a sweet finish but not hefe weissen sweet, just a hint of sweet and not red, but brown. Not too thick either, somewhat refreshing instead. Can anyone tell me what beer it is that I'm searching for? This is not a riddle.

That's one of their sweeter brews. I would call it "maltier", but I'm no pro. (I'll have to keep practicing). They also make two of the brews I mentioned earlier. The Hazed and Infused is a dryhopped IPA (I think) that is just outstanding. The other is the Mojo, which is intended to be super hoppy. I liked the Mojo pretty well when I first had it, but since I've grown to think it is gimmicky. It is very clear, and the sharpness is the only flavor.
But, try the Hazed. Mmm Mmm Good.

Unless those are really enormous bottles, I would forgo the recorking option. Growlers and mini kegs should be consumed the day they are opened as well as big bottles. Look at them as a pitcher with a lid. Once oxygen has come in contact with beer it rapidly deteriorates. Have you ever had day old beer out of a keg with a hand pump? That nasty cardboard flavor is due to oxidation, so use the stopper only if the bottle cannot be consumed in a sitting and even then, try to finish it off within 24 hours. Bottoms up! :)

I agree with Hophead. ST. Sebastian has those Grolsch-style caps but they really only do any good if you plan to reuse them in a homebrew batch later.(Hmmmmm... with the paper label off, they would be nice looking bottles to put my homebrew in!) hrm...well, i'm really just "hoppin'" out (hehe....) into the beer world.
i liked the good old mass produced standards, like yuengling and guiness.
i really like sierra nevada, every day for a week i used to get off of work with a steak sub, and i'd stop and pick up a pint bottle of that stuff to go with it. puurrr-fection.
upon a friend's heavy recommendation, i picked up a bottle of delerium nocturnum. i liked it, but i think i'll like the white version (d. tremens) a little better.
i also tried some beer along time ago...something "dog" with gonzo art on the label. the specific flavor was "in heat wheat." definitely a sweet, creamy delight.

hee well i can almost say i never had a bottle that remained undrunk for longer than 24 hours... i like the recorking option if a location/spectator change is needed at a 24 hour race or other event, prevents spillage...
Bottoms up! :)

I'm silly for Mirror Pond, but maybe that's because I used to live in Bend and spent way too much time at the Deschutes Brewery.
Oh and about that "Never Summer" beer, that's named after the Never Summer Range in Rocky Mountain National Park. Boy are they named appropiately.

Most of you pittsburgh folk will agree that while pittsburgh brewing's efforts are applauded, their beers lack something called taste...
so, while I was in the burgh a few weeks ago, I had a new product called Big Hop Ale from East end Brewing
http://www.eastendbrewing.com/
its a pretty damn good beer and a might tasty if you like the hops...kinda like hop devil, yet smoother
anyhow the brewer is really making an effort at organic and sustainable brewing and as far as I can tell
its a one man show for the most part.

Hey Lesion, if you want to ride while you're in RI let me know. I can usually ride after work, you can borrow a bike if you didn't bring one. Most my bikes are 19", althought the Chameleon is fairly flexible due to the sloping top tube. BTW - try some Newport Storm while you're in RI. Good stuff.

bdee,
Well, I'd love to go....
But I'm back in PA already....I'll be back in Warwick on Thursday thru Sunday, but my brother's situation--and health--are desperate enough that I can't really break away to do any riding (damn, damn, damn). He's in pretty rough shape with his celiac disease. Needless to say, the bulk of the loading is falling upon myself (well it did for this last pickup truck/ trailer load) and I don't know how this U-Haul truck load will pan out (at least he's contracted a few of his friends to help this time). Of course I get to drive...again.
I never spent a lot of time in New England prior to this spring...and I passed premature judgement on your digs...I didn't think there was much ridin' to be had up that-a-way (outside of Mt. Snow and what-not in the Vermont/ New Hamster neighborhood, but I had a myopic view of even that until I gots a firsthand eyeball of it). Wow. There's ridin' to be had in Rhodie Land....Connecticut....Vermont..and New Hamster. Enough so that I wanna go back. Its-a-bootiful.
This from the guy who is really biased (and spoiled) from living in NW Pennsylvania. Until recently, I thought this place offered about the best ridin' to be had east of the Rockies. Guess I have to ride a bit more before I go makin' those kinda calls. New Englanders: I'm sorta envious.
Back to the beers....
Had a Rogue Dead Guy for the first time in eons....was as good as I recall. The getting piss warm in the cab of the truck and being re-refrigerated didn't seem to do it any harm. I really miss being able to easily find microbrews like this in western PA. Trying to find quality oddball bottled beers in Venango County is like trying to buy a snuff film. There was Lindeman's Framboise Lambic ( the first since my Alaska days, a welcome visit from an old friend, for those who haven't had one, its a Belgian Import with secondary fermentation caused by the introduction of fresh raspberries....yum), and a Melbourne Strawberry Import from Britain (very sweet, slightly syrupy....I'm assuming it is a lambic style beer as well).
I noticed lots of "Boycott Budweiser" bumper stickers in Rhode Island. I couldn't agree more. Ban that pisswater.
I'd like to say fanks again bdee....hopefully I'll get your way again soon. I'll let ya know.
Yours in nudity and lewdity,
Lesion

You need to find out where a good tap house and 6 pack shop are and hit it one weekend. Go with a buddy and split the beers you try so you can sample twice as many. Then mix and match a 6 pack to take home. Do that once or twice and you'll most like have some new favorite beers. :D

Yesterday I picked up a case of Erie Brewing Company's Railbender Ale--I highly reccommend it.
Hints of chocolate & raspberry combine with a bold hoppiness in a dark beer--not overly carbonated or thick and just complicated enough.
Sadly, after consuming six or so, my friends Danny Jr., Jennifer and I strolled to Brewbusters pub...where we went about consuming Penn Dark and Jaegermeister.
I have NO idea what was up the barmaid's butt, but I guess you can't take a nap where you want in Pennsylvania anymore. Things escalated, and anyhow, I have to find a new place to drink.
I don't blame the folks at Erie Brewing Company for this. I blame that rude barmaid. She lives down the street. I used to wave when she walked by. I'll still wave, but with significantly fewer fingers.

I found a case of 2003 Sierra Nevada Bigfoot, A couple of sixers of 2000 Bigfoot, A bottle of Thomas Hardy's Ale Silver Anniversary vintage 1993, An assload of Sam Adams original vintage 1994 Triple Boch (tastes like shit, but comes in a really cool bottle) a few bottles of the GABF silver medal award winning 1995 Blue Ridge Subliminator, and a magnum of the turn of the millenium Anchor Merry Christmas & Happy New Year Ale.
Too bad I don't drink.

I found a new tasty treat from the folks down the road in New Glarus, WI. New Glarus Black Wheat. It has all the roastiness of a decent porter with a nice hint of cinnamon and clove. Very reminiscent of some of the finest home brews I have ever tasted. I liked it so much I asked santa for a case! If you like a roasty brew for the winter but hate getting slaughtered with the full belly that porters tend to give you, then I'd highly recommend this wonderful treat. Also, digging their Tailwagger Barley Wine. Great taste without the super high alcohol of some other BW. Speaking of wonders in the beer cellar. Dad dragged out a unlabled six pack of homebrew that has to be from 98 (last time I brewed). Might tackle that when I visit folks at xmas.

One word of caution, most beer, with the exception of heavily hopped high alcohol brews, don't do well with age. Bottle conditioned home brew can get down right disgusting if kept lingering around too long. Reason being is yeast autolysis. After the yeast have run out of sugar to consume, they start to canibalize each other. The byproducts of autolysis give the brew a burned rubber odor and taste to match.
Barley wine ales and other very strong specialty brews can keep for many years, but they are the exceptions. Most beer is best consumed fresh.

hey all, living where i do, amongst my friends i am considered a bit eccentric ('f@$&in weird' is how they put it). They dont understand my love of biking, hockey, reading, or the fine art of the dark beer. all they consume is vast quantities of the typical bud, miller, keystone, basically any and all watered down mass produced american beer. my palate is much more refined. Guiness, Bass, and Rogue are some of my current favorites. Went to Germany a few summers ago and wow, great beer. ever have the chance, visit the brewery Hofbrahaus (spelling may be wrong). also just got back from Portland, Maine. Great bars there. Gritty McDuff's brew their own which is great. Their Scottish Ale is in season now, and it rocks. Thats about it. oh ya, anyone out there ever try Fat Tire, i always want to but cant get it where i reside. take care and dont drink and drive (very stupid and VERY expensive pain in the ass)

I just had the pleasure (my wallet may disagree) of buying the last 12 bottles of Dogfish Head World Wide Stout at the local store. This beer, for the uninformed, is rated (2004 vintage is what I got) @ 23 % alch. with a rise in alch. by the aging process. I've had this beer in the past and it is amazing. Very much like a port wine more so than a beer. Not for the fainthearted or light beer drinkers!

this beer was found in a swanky lcbo store in brampton as i rode home from the factory... i hit some newly freezing trails on the commute back home (see bike pic below). as you can see a low branch made contact with the corner of the carboard "case". we often carry these "case's" into the woods for a beer and fire. they burn well to start the cooking fire... :D

Over here Nascar racing is BIG among many folks, especially rednecks. Quite a few cars are sponsored by large american brew companies like,Budweiser,busch,miller,etc......... That beer taste mostly like like piss water. Your fosters, while not great has more flavor.

So, are you saying if I tip a few of those and I wanted to ride, I should log the miles at home on my stationary instead of cruising through town with my hand over one eye to see clearly? Hehe...;)
I actually was at the local brewery last night looking for a big beer and was dissappointed to see nothing over 5.5% ABV. I, in turn, sampled the worst IPA ever called "Daisy Cutter IPA" The taste was gone almost before I finished swallowing.

Dog Fish Head 90 min Ale (its the sh!t they have a 60 and a 120 min ale too, but i like the 90)
Abita Turbo Dog (darker and tastier than Guinness)
Old Dead Man ( again a dark beer that totally rocks my face off!)
Hogarten (bavarian Wheat Ale...this stuff is sick as heck! {in a good way})
Blue Moon (white ale...good stuff!)
Old Peculiar (Deffinately one of my favorites)
Red Stripe ( i know this one is really common, but after a 30 mile bike ride it'll get you messed up in a hurry and it really is refreashing)
And of course the cheapest and crappiest!!!

In Summit county there are five microbreweries. In my zymurgistic opinion The Backcountry Brewery (http://www.backcountrybrewery.com/) in Frisco has on of the best bitters.
It's an IPA with and IBU (International Bitterness Units) of 60.
They also make a Pilsner at 42 IBU. Nice and dry!
The breakfast stout is brewed with coffee for a unique taste. I'm not a porter/stout fan but I'm told this is a good one.
The best thing about The Backcountry is that they have "Party Pigs" to-go. These are 2.25 gal (8.5 l) plastic containers with a bladder. When the beer is poured the bladder colapese and no air comes in contact with the product.
They say that these pigs have a refrigerated shelflife of six-months but I'v never had one last that long.
Post Script: Nat Ross (if you gotta ask never mind) tended bar at the Dam Brewery (http://www.dambrewery.com/) in Dillon.

Guys...again from the 3rd world. The commercial beer fridges in Venezuela have digital thermometers with LED numbers on the door so you can see how cold the beer is inside. The pilzners they brew here need to be served ice cold, (-5C, 23F) otherwise they do taste like dog crap. The bottles are small, 250 ml, so you can drink 'em fast.
Actually they do taste pretty good when sitting in the shade on the beach when fresh cold ones keep coming from a 20-something brown-skinned babe. ;)

My Boulevard faves in (very close) order:
Pale Ale
Bully Porter
Wheat
Nutcracker
Stout
Bob's 47
Haven't tried Irish Ale in season
Zon sucks. Tried it at their annual brewery party.
Sorry you're down to your last, I see. :(
Zon is the bomb once you acquire a taste for Belgian styles. I hear that Bully is experimenting w/ dubbels and trippels. If you get a chance try New Belgium's trippel and dubbel. Strong. Like eating a loaf of sour bread. I believe the trippel is 8%. There is a time and place for all beers...even poopy ones (canoe floats, something to shoot at, etc). Happy drinkin.
Y'all Freestaters ever eat beef at that joint?
