The Dirt Rag Reeking Crew was packing our brand new belt-buckle spy camera at the Sea Otter Classic, and we were able to get this shot of Old Man Mountain's brand new prototype bike, dubbed the Boomerang. Here's what our operatives were able to ascertain: aluminum construction, 4.75" rear travel, Rohloff 14-speed rear hub, standard bottom bracket, and three frames sizes to be offered. Old Man Mountain is best know for offering a mind boggling array of front and rear pannier racks, but keep a spy eye on www.oldmanmountain.com and you should see the Boomerang bike making its official debut soon.

On June 1st, 2006 three bicyclists using fixed-gear bicycles will begin a 6,000 mile journey across the United States to raise funds for the American Diabetes Association and Kupenda. In an effort to up the PR ante, they'll be riding fixed gear bicycles (hey, it worked on me). The riders may be hard core, but they're not stupid—a fourth friend will be driving a support vehicle. Yep, they've got a web site where you can make a donation.

CLIF SHOT is now certified organic. According to Cilf, it's the only organic energy gel on the market. All eight flavors of CLIF SHOT are now made with a minimum of 90 percent organic ingredients. "Clif Bar & Co. is committed to healthy living and preservation of the natural environment where we live, play and grow food," says Chris Randall, CLIF SHOT associate brand manager. "As athletes we're very much in tune with the air we breathe, the water we swim in, and the food we ingest. Organic ingredients simply make the most sense from all of these perspectives."

Good Samaritan Hospital, with support from the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition, the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Authority, will host its 3rd Annual West Coast Blessing of the Bicycles on Tuesday, May 16th in observance of Bike to Work Week and National Bike Month. The event, which takes place from 8:00 a.m. through 9:30 a.m. in the circular driveway outside the hospital (616 S. Witmer Street), will have religious leaders from different faiths sharing their thoughts and wishes for continued safe riding throughout the week and the whole year. Click here for more information.

And finally, this note comes from reader Jonathan Dietch:
As a long-time DR subscriber/reader I have wanted to submit something unique art-wise. Since I mainly ride an all carbon low racer recumbent I put together a few low budget videos which you might just enjoy: http://imageevent.com/aero92/videoprojects.
